In 1916, Hesperia became part of the new state of California after it was granted federal recognition as a county by President Woodrow Wilson. At that time, both local and national politics were very different in California than they are today; Hesperia therefore experienced some unique political changes during its brief history as part of the statehood process. After becoming a county seat, Hesperia continued to grow rapidly with many new businesses being founded including two hospitals (1921 and 1936), two libraries (1927 and 1948), three schools (1929-33), four churches (1935-41), five motels (1945-49), eleven restaurants (1950-53), twelve stores (1957-63), thirteen pipelines (1964-68), fifteen water towers (1969-1973) and seventeen residences (.00017% population). All these businesses continue to operate today except for two: One closed down due to economic conditions while another converted into commercial space but remains active as an inn/motel complex called Five bedrooms plus breakfast located at 11505 Midway Rd., Suite 201 within walking distance of most residents

After the war ended, many people returned to their homes and businesses; however, some people stayed in Hesperia to continue their businesses or to start new ones. The post office closed in 1865 but reopened in 1870 under new name of "Hesperia." In 1875, he first agricultural fair was held at the town square and later moved to larger auditorium on Main Street where it continues to beheld annually today.
