Hesperia is a small town located in Siskiyou County, California. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Modesto metropolitan area. The town was founded about 1856 by Mormon settlers who had come from Iowa and Nebraska. The first store in Hesperia opened in 1857 and the post office was established in 1860. In 1865, the United States Congress passed an act authorizing the construction of a military fort to protect wagon trains traveling between Sacramento and San Francisco. The fort, which became known as Fort Point, was built on what is now Hesperia Boulevard and Harrison Street. Hesperia's namesake comes from Spanish for "hazy land". On July 4, 1876 (), Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna made an attack on Camp Grant near present-day Hesperia while Ulysses S. Grant was serving as military governor of California; his forces were driven off after a three-hour battle that left over 100 men dead or wounded. The town began to prosper due to its trade with surrounding communities such as Modesto and Stockton. A hotel/motel complex called Gassaway Manor opened in1929, soon followed by another called Park Place Hotel & Resort (now Marriott). In 1937, Hesperia incorporated as a city under state law; it had a population of 2,372 at the time. In 1951–1952, Hesperia hosted the United States Olympic Trials for track athletes; national champions John Carlos and Jesse Owens participated there that year. After years of decline due to changing demographics and economic conditions withintowns across Northern California,[3] Hesperia saw significant growth beginning in the late 1990s when it became home to two major Southern Californian medical device companies: Medtronic Corporation (now Abbott Laboratories)[4][5]and GE Healthcare.[6][7] In 2000–2001 HESPERIA CITY COUNCIL BEGAN TO IMPORT NOBLE WINE FROM Tuscany,[8] marking one of many new civic initiatives initiated by Mayor Donny Marks during his first term.[9] During this time period also several restaurants such as Red Lobster moved into town from other parts of Northern California[10][11]. This growth spurt however ended around 2006 when many local businesses went out of business due to global recession[12]. However since then things have been slowly trending back up with some investments being made including building new homes[13], employment opportunities for locals[14], more streetlights downtown[/15],[16], increased concerts/events happening throughout summertime[/17],[18], increasing production coming out of brick & mortar businesses spawning new startups etc...etc...

Hesperia is a small town in the Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is located on the west side of Fresno, about 12 miles north of downtown Fresno and about 4 miles south of Hwy 99W. The first people to live in Hesperia were the Cahuilla Indians who called it "House Springs". The first European to visit Hesperia was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on Oct 26, 1542 when he landed on San Francisco Bay. He named it San Miguel de Tucumán after his home country Spain. In 1847 José Joaquín Mora y Grana founded Rancho Magdaleno east of Hesperia and sold land there for development into what is now Fresno County. In 1873 Valentine Clarke opened an agricultural station near present-day Hesperia which became known as Valentine's Station & Store. In 1902 the townsite was patented to Jerome Bogan by prospector Wm. Fenton Irwin, who also named it Boganville after him and his brother John Bogan (1838-1916). In 1906 George Hearn started irrigating land east of current day Hesperia and soon built a large water tower that became one of the tallest in southern California. He also built a sawmill and gristmill at nearby Hearnville which still stands today.George Hearn also donated some acreage to build what would become Sacramento State University in 1919 from portions of his land grant from Mexico City Governor Alvarado CastroJr.. It was originally thought that this land would be used for agricultural purposes but eventuallybecame one of America's largest universities with more than 9,000 students enrolled in its various faculties including law, engineering and medical sciences as well as many Centennial Colleges such as CSU Stanislaus campus located just outside Sacramento city limits where I am currently enrolled having completed my bachelors degree in Computer Science/Electronics Engineering! Hesperia experienced several fires during its early years due to overuse or accidental ignition by ranch hands or farmers burning brush piles around their homes while working on their fields; however these fires quickly stopped once proper fire prevention measures were put into place such as using screen doors instead of windowsill screens and training employees on how to use extinguishers properly
