The first ammunition company in Hesperia was the Western Cartridge Company, founded in 1892 by two veteran riflemen, Wm. H. Heizer and H.L. “Buzz” Webb. The original cartridges were musket ball and black powder charges that could be fired from pistols or rifles. In 1903, the Western Cartridge Company changed its name to Winchester Ammunition Corporation and began producing shells for handguns and shotguns under the Winchester Repeating Arms Company banner. From 1907 until 1912, Winchester Ammunition Corporation produced ammunition for both World War I and World War II; during this time it also became involved in the manufacture of firearms components such as trigger groups, bolts, stocks and sights. In 1954 Winchester Ammunition Corporation merged with Remington Firearms Company to form Remington-Winchester Incorporated (now Commerce National Bank). During the late 1800s through early 1900s there was an extensive use of lead shot in various types of arms throughout North America due to its effectiveness as a projectile delivery system and its relatively low recoil when ignited by a cartridge detonating within the barrel

Hesperia is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is located in the southern portion of Kern County on State Route 158 near Bakersfield. The community was founded by brothers Charles and John Wesley Hesperia in 1892 as a post office called Hesperia. The post office was moved to its current location in 1903 and remained there until it merged with Bakersfield in 1959. A number of businesses were established during the early years of Hesperia's existence such as a sawmill, lumberyards, and a grocery store. The Hesperia Volunteer Fire Department has been operational since 1915. The first fire truck arrived from Los Angeles on November 20th that year. The department currently has six trucks and twenty-four firefighters who respond to all types of emergencies including fires; vehicular accidents; chemical spills; riots; earthquakes; and cattle calls. In 1916, local farmers began growing grapes for wine production which led to the founding of the Winegrowers Association of Kern County (WAC). The WAC helped promote viticulture among local farmers and provided marketing support for their products statewide. In 1951, Hesperia became an incorporated city with full powers under California law following approval by voters via referendum.
Hesperia was founded on January 6, 1849 by Don Lorenzo de la Hoz and his brother Francisco. The town was named for the Hesperia Ranch, which ran along the present-day San Joaquin River. The La Hoz brothers were among the first Californians to arrive in what is now California. They built a small cabin near modern-day Hesperia and began farming. In 1851, they organized a newsagency in Hesperia and began selling newspapers across the state of California. In 1853, they married Maria del Carmen Vallejo and moved to central Mexico to start their own farm. They returned to California in 1855, when their farm failed and they again moved back east until 1870 when they finally settled in Hesperia where they remained until their death in 1916.
