A post office called Hebbronville was established in 1851, but it never received any mail due to difficulties getting horses across the bay to carry letters; instead people sentpackages by boat down the creek. In 1861, a group of English boys stranded onshore while exploring Pasadena had an idea to build a summer camp on Long Beach so they could continue their exploration without fear of being lost or attacked by natives living near Mission Bay during springtime; this became known as Hebbronville Campsite (). In 1863 Brownell built an adobe structure known today as White House #2 that served as his winter home until he moved into his permanent residence – now occupied by University Hall – in 1865. Brownell also constructed an experimental cotton ginning facility at what is today Highland Valley School District headquarters off Third Street between Euclid Avenue and Vine Street in 1865 (). Because Hebbronville lacked facilities such as a school or storehouse for storing goods produced at his campsite, local farmers began trading goods they produced with Hebbronville for items unavailable locally such as flour, salt and other essential supplies needed for agriculture back then. By 1870 there were enough residents/ Boosters interested in maintaining Hebbronville that an election was held to create a board responsible for running the campground which resulted in John Pemberton becoming its first president (). Eventually more buildings were erected including White House #3 which served as America's first hotel west of Mexico City before it closed down due to financial problems in 1925 (); Today only foundations remain above water - evidence that when it did function as a hotel it must have been quite luxurious (). Although business operations at White House #2 failed within months after opening due to competition from beachside hotels operated by Japanese Americans working aboard USS Enterprise during World War II (), local boosters continued promoting tourism around South Coast Amateur Radio Clubs meetings where they would sell tickets for amateur radio contests held at various locations around town each week beginning September 10th 1906 through May 14th 1907 (& Trophy Show exception) . This format allowed amateur operators all over Southern California accessto quality communication opportunities via short wave frequencies starting October 15th 1906 thru May 15th 1907 . On Saturday nights beginning November 2nd 1906 thru Friday night following each month Guggenheim Auditorium became availablefor public functions such as dances etc..
