Scope mounts have been a part of the Hermosa Beach community for over sixty years. The first scope mounts were located on Third Street in downtown Hermosa Beach. A group of businessmen, developers and residents wanted to improve their community by creating a new shopping center. They decided to install two sets of scopes on top of the old clothing store building on Third Street. This build continued until 1965 when another business, Gold's Gym, moved into the space and installed its own scope mounts. From then until now,scope mounts have been an integral part of Hermosa Beach.

Hermosa Beach is a town located on the Pacific Ocean in Orange County, California. The town was founded in 1887 by brothers George and Lorenzo Hermosa, who named it after their sister's husband, Michael Hermosa. The first post office was established in 1888. In 1930, the name of the town was changed to Hermosa Beach proper. In 1984, the town merged with Dana Point to form a single municipality. As of 2010, the population of Hermosa Beach was 71,844 people. The village of Hebrides had been located on what is now Hermosa Beach since 1776 when Spanish missionaries founded Mission San José de las Palmas de la Laguna for Native Americans called "the Indians." The mission chapel still stands today and is open to visitors every day from 9:00am until 4:00pm except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The area that would become Hermosa Beach began as part of Rancho Los Nietos which encompassed parts of what are now Orange County and Riverside County today. On November 3rd 1847 Mexican Alvarado Garcia sold Rancho Los Nietos to Captain Francis Drake for $3200USD cash plus 400 acres (16 hectares) of land where he built his own ranch house called La Bahia Blanca meaning white beach or white sand beach.. Captain Drake also acquired some extensive coastal Agricultural land including horses and milk cows along with rights to build wharf moorings at various points on Torrance Creek so that ships could be drawn upriver for shipment into Tustin or Newport Harbor during times when those ports were closed due to high water levels caused by winter storms such as those which hit Southern California in 1863-1864 known as Christmas Flooding On December 15th 1860 Mexican War veteran Antonio Lopez purchased an additional 640 acres (24 hectares) adjacent to La Bahia Blanca from Captain Drake from Juan Bautista Carrillo Chavez who had also bought part of Rancho Los Nietos from Captains Drakes predecessor . After Lopez acquired this new tract he renamed it “Rancho Santa Ana” following his patron saint – Saint Anthony - who is reputedly buried there within easy walking distance Lopez further enlarged his holdings over time becoming one of America’s largest landowners during its early days after purchasing another 640 acres (24 hectares) adjacent to “Rancho Santa Ana” extending it even further north reaching into Ventura County while later acquiring 5 tracts totaling almost 2 million square feet (.91 million sq meters). This vast real estate acquisitions made him one of southern California’s most powerful men and helped contribute significantly towards making Encinitas one of OCs leading commercial towns during the late 19th century . In 1865 Hector Jimenez purchased 1/4 mile (.25 kilometer) east side lot #2 in present day downtownHermosa Beach from Antonio Lopez for $100 USD cash plus 10 head Of Sheep which he kept until 1886 when he donated them back to society Although Jimenez never lived inHebrides he left behind a lasting legacy both through his donation(s) but more importantly through the establishment & maintenance throughout successive generations ol his original 2 block long street known today simply as “Hector Jimenez Street” running roughly parallel w/ High Street bisecting downtown just southgof Main Street cornering NW 8th St .) thence easterly along NE 6th St., terminating at NW 12th St .) currently designated State Route 381A Business
