Hermosa Beach is on the Pacific Coast and bordered by Dana Point to the south and Newport Beach to the north. The first people to live in what is now Hermosa Beach were Ohlone Native Americans who hunted game in nearby Mission Bay. In 1821, Captain John Doane of USS Constitution explored Santa Ana Bay and discovered Los Angeles Bay. He named the bay "Bay City" after his hometown of Buffalo, New York. In 1827, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo discovered Channel Islands off the coast of Long Island while sailing for Spain under Captains José Gaspar de Portolá and Antonio López de Mendoza. On July 12, 1827 he named them San Miguel de Borrego after General Manuel Miranda y Costilla who had led an expedition against Mexico two years earlier at Zumralde Gulf near Socorro Island in Baja California Sur. Englishman David Waddell took possession of San Miguel on November 4th with about 50 men for Spanish Empire under Captain Fernando Rivera y Valdés from Monterey Peninsula outside of San Diego when they discovered it on their way back from exploring inland waters between Carmel Valley and Janesville Valley on September 24th 1797 during a voyage along coast from Monterey Peninsula to Bodega del Rey Harbor near Point Conocoche (the modern-day Don Pedro Naval Base). The islands were part of Mexican territory until 1898 when they became part of US territory following victory over Mexico in that year's Mexican–American War. On February 15th 1860, Commodore Matthew Perry anchored off Harbor du Boeuf (now Seal Beach) east of present day Hermosa beach as part of his attempt to open up trade with China through Nootka Sound across Vancouver Strait via Cape Disappointment which he judged would be less traveled than either Strait of Juan de Fuca or Strait Of Georgia because it was narrower and had no land bridges connecting it to other parts of North America which made it difficult for Chinese vessels to enter/exit without being seen by American sailors………..Hereditary ownership continues today through descendants oft ermigrating Japanese immigrants who first came ashore during World War II……….The town’s name derives from its location – close to both high tidemarks – meaning “shoreline point where waves crash onto shore”………….. This law provided for a police force made up of volunteer firefighters with full power to arrest any person found violating municipal ordinances orlaws without warrant or probable cause! In 1905, when Orange County was formed from portions of Los Angeles County, Hermosa Beach was annexed into Orange County and its own city charter was adopted allowing for an mayor and five council members elected at-large with no limit on how many terms a person could serve consecutively. During World War II President Roosevelt visited Newport News Naval Shipyard where he announced plans to build USS Constitution (CV-18), one of three American warships designed specifically for naval warfare against Japan using innovative new materials like steel wire mesh instead of traditional oakum! After Pearl Harbor Honor Flight services departed from Santa Ana Airport on February 8th 1941 en route to Hawaii bringing Japanese war criminals back home under U.S.-Japanese Executive Order 9102! Many people still remember this day when Admiral Chester Nimitz met Hawaii Governor David Ige aboard USS Arizona (BB-39) off Coast Guard Station Kaneohe Bay! As a result many homes throughout town were built near Navy Yard property as barracks for sailors/ Marines/ airmen during World War II... Pomona Boulevard still bears General MacArthur's name 4 miles south along its length

It developed on the southern end of Long Beach Peninsula, and became an important resort area for the city of Los Angeles. The first Europeans to visit Hermosa Beach were Portuguese fishermen in 1542. A mission was established there in 1777 by Father Junípero Serra. In 1824, Captain John Doolittle discovered gold along the coast and named it after his hometown of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The first post office called Hermosa Beach "Doolittle's Harbor" until 1876 because many ships stopped there to restock their supplies before continuing their voyage down the Pacific Coast. The city of Los Angeles annexed Hermosa Beach in 1919 as part of its Comprehensive Plan which aimed to make Los Angeles more integrated with its adjacent communities including Anaheim and Fullerton. After annexation, much development took place within what would become the new town limits: An old munitions plant was redeveloped into a shopping mall that now houses several high-end stores; a new golf course was built; and homes were built for workers who had been displaced by industrialization in nearby cities such as Anaheim and Fullerton. In 1984, when Compton became an unincorporated community within Los Angeles County, Hermosa Beach decreased in size but maintained some degree of cultural significance due to its proximity to both cities. In recent years though life has become increasingly difficult for most residents as crime rates have soared while wages have stagnated or declined; however businesses such as Aquaphor are still located near downtown LA making it easier for locals to get by than ever before despite scarce resources
