Hermosa Beach, California is a town in Santa Barbara County, California. The population was 21,595 at the 2010 census. It is located on the south shore of the San Pedro Bay and is adjacent to Carpinteria. Hermosa Beach's name comes from Spanish "hermosa" meaning "beautiful." The first Europeans to visit what is now Hermosa Beach were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his crew in 1542. They named it Isla de la Esperanza after an apparition of the Blessed Virgin that they saw nearsituated off Point Conception in Thousand Oaks. In 1827, A. S. Webster wrote about "A beautiful place with fine white sand beaches". When he visited again in 1829 he called it Isla de Villa Hermosa because of the wealth of shells found there; this name still appears on some street signs today. Commodore John C . Perry anchored at Point Conception on November 12, 1847 whileveering along Santa Barbara County's coast during his attempt to open up trade with Mexico In 1853 Humboldt Bay was filled with dredges and when Captain Charles Kingsbury sailed into it for observation on October 5th he reported that its shores were covered with coral reefs extending inland for over a mile (1600 m). The next year Commodore James K . Polk sailed into Baja California without stopping at Catalina Island and as a result of his observations several reefs lay offshore including one which became known as Kingsbury Reef or Doña Ana Reef due to its location beside Don José Francisco Peralta's sugar plantation at Thatchaqui Creek between Nuñez and Madera Streets on Santa Monica Pier

In total, these laws have led to significant reductions in firearm violence across America.

In 1954, Hermosa Beach became part of Los Angeles County and had its own government. The following year, the city voted to annex neighboring Venice. Despite this annexation, Hermosa Beach has remained an independent municipality with its own police department and mayor. In 1984, Mayor Danilo Medina proposed building a beach front stadium to attract more visitors to the town. Despite public opposition, he built the stadium and named it after himself. The city also sponsored several events such as car shows, music festivals, and surfing competitions throughout their history. In 2015-16, Hermosa Beach annexed Playa del Carmen which caused much controversy among residents who argue thatPlaya del Carmen is not truly withinHermosa Beach's boundaries
