Hermosa Beach is a small town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 20,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on Pacific Coast Highway and it's adjacent to Dana Point and Laguna Beach. The area that now forms Hermosa Beach was first inhabited by Aboriginal people. The Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico was built in 1776 and the mission's priests were the first Europeans to come ashore in what is now Hermosa Beach. In 1821, Captain John Wainwright gave rise to Rancho Santa Margarita which became part of Rancho Santa Ana de la Costa. In 1882, James Irvine bought 1/4 interest in Rancho Santa Anita from Manuel Nieto for $5,000 and started developing it as an agricultural county seat for Orange County with select commercial privileges. On July 1, 1907 he sold his interest to J.P. Morgan for $350,000 becoming the primary developer of coastal OC during its heyday as a resort community during World War I (1914-1918). overtook Newport News as the most populous port of call on the West Coast during that time period; however Newport News would eventually reacquire its position beginning in the early 21st century On December 2nd 1941 Japan signed surrender papers ending World War II and triggering U.S., British and Canadian military occupation of Japan until 1951 when they handed over all Japanese assets including their municipalities to MacArthur's Australian Army command under General Douglas MacArthur who divided them into three zones: East Asia (Japan proper), South Asia (India through Burma) and Western Pacific Ocean Areas (the Ryukyus). Of particular significance were Hermosa Beach where American servicemen had been quartered since 1945 due to limited housing available elsewhere inside or outside of Japan – home front restrictions following World War II still Apply today! During peacetime American citizens continued living overseas but wartime residents returned home “home” within two years after hostilities ended so many local businesses were reopened such as Bank of America which opened back up on March 15th 1946 just two months after Pearl Harbor attacked! Domestic airlines only began service here again about a year later! This coincided with Silicon Valley opening up west coast USA with new jobs coming online thanks largely to WWII GI Bill availability especially at Stanford Universityachu Picchu Service Company Incorporated opened this location just south of Third Street between State Route 163rd Avenue eastbound off Fourth Street northbound closed business hours around 1940 while other businesses like Alameda Lumber near downtown open late into night Saturdays thru Thursdays due primarily because there wasn’t any railroad service out here then either southwest corner Third Street eastside closed Monday morning 1935 Railroad came down this street name changed back then kinda RANDY ROAD but traffic stopped going along 3rd Street until 1958 when BART started operation providing more direct transportation not only out here but also into town ! Today some remaining businesses still operate late nights & weekends so enjoy your stay here at least one night while you're visiting OBH!

The first Europeans to visit what is now Hermosa Beach were Spanish explorers in 1769. They named it "Veracruz", after their colony in Mexico City. A whaling station and trading post were established here in 1821 by Captains John Wainwright and David Thompson; the town was originally called Whale Point. The name change may have been due to local whalers using the beach for swimming during their off-duty hours. During World War II, many American servicemen lived and worked in Hermosa Beach; although most of them left after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor made war inevitable. The town's central business district was built on a bluff overlooking the beach between 1850 and 1870 by Jens Jensen (1785-1864), who built an extensive seafood empire which included several restaurants, stores, and a pier that served as a popular spot for enjoying views of San Francisco Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge from his home on Cliff House Hill overlooking the waterfront. A new courthouse was built in 1871 around what is now Main Street; it burned down in 1915 but was rebuilt with help from donations from citizens including shipowner Elisha Graydon Cooke Sr., mayor James Irvine (1912-1914), General Electric founder George Westinghouse (1860-1945), Hollywood movie star Douglas Fairbanks Jr., oil tycoon John Dutton (1888-1964) and others. In 1916 Konrad Lorenz set up his Rancho Santa Margarita near present day Hermosillo Avenue and State Route 1B
