Healdsburg, California is a wine-growing town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 30,907 at the 2010 census and has grown to over 60,000 since then. Healdsburg is one of the most prominent wineproducing regions in the United States and has been awarded numerous accolades including being named one of America's "Top 10 Wine Towns" by Wine Spectator magazine in 2009. The area that now Healdsburg was first settled by Native Americans about three centuries ago. The Mission Santa Clara de Asis (later Santa Clara University) was founded here in 1795 and soon began importing European wines from Italy, Spain and Burgundy to sell to local Californians. By 1876, when Rancho Seco Mexican land became available for sale east of Healdsburg, many American farmers had bought it, along with some vineyards west of town. In 1875, George Hearst opened his new Hearst Ranch near Healdsburg which included much of what is now downtown Healdsburg. And so began a long history of business and industry hereabouts that still flourishes today--including agriculture (the town grew up around fruit orchards), retail sales (consisting mostly of groceries), manufacturing (wine making until the early 20th century), government services (municipal water systems were built here), as well as professional sports teams like the Athletics and Golden State Warriors--all while preserving anXTremely diverse arrayof cultural experiences that make this city something special indeed: its art galleries; its renowned wineries; its lively nightlife; its rich historical fabric; and above all, its warm hospitality!

Healdsburg is a small town in the eastern U.S. state of California. It was founded in 1879 by Gouverneur Heald and his family, who named it for healdsburg, England. The Healdsburg Museum is located in the town's downtown district, while the Healdsburg Agricultural and Water District has its headquarters in neighboring Graham. According to The Healdsburg Planning Commission, the population of Healdsburg grew from 2,878 in 2000 to 4,521 as of July 1, 2010. The town began as a farming community on Hwy 1A about north of present-day Healdsburg (then known as Plano). In 1879 Gouverneur Heald purchased 6 miles (10 km) of Native American land stretching along the Sacramento River for $2 per acre ($40 per kilometer). By 1888 he had developed 3 blocks wide (ias: .6 acres = 100 m²), with homespun stores and barns dotting a main street bisected by an irrigation ditch that drained into the river at intervals; there were no paved streets or sewers then. By 1890 businesses included a store, bank and school; by 1900 there were also 9 residences. After years of construction—and several natural disasters such as flooding during drought years—the new town had come into being and boasted "over 10 churches", "a dozen schools" and "a hospital". In 1907 Elisha Chapman established what would become one of America's first successful dry-cell telephone companies from his home phone line between Santa Clara County and San Francisco using metalwire technology developed at Bell Laboratories near Palo Alto; early pioneers such as Chapman helped lay the groundwork for Silicon Valley telecommunications later that decade. A few years later Gouverneur HeALD sold all his holdings in 1912 to Carl Vinson for $1 million dollars making him one of America's richest men until his death two years later at age 87. In 1925 Sam Sayers opened an appliance store on Third Street which became one of America's largest retailers selling everything from radios to refrigerators before going out of business in 1979 following strikes by workers over low wages and benefits package
