In 1951, he merged his holdings with those of his brother-in-law Leslie Hutton to create Hearst Inc., which controlled much of what is now Silicon Valley. In 1969, Alexander Graham Bell founded Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), which designed and built some of the first electronic equipment and developed early computer systems here. ARPA operated out of Healdsburg until 1973 when it relocated to Arlington Heights, Illinois due to budget cutsbacks at ARPA headquarters in Washington D.C.. Healdsburg's economy has changed more than any other US town since World War II; its primary industry has been agriculture but recent years have seen growth in high tech startups as well as professional services such as law firms and medical clinics

Healdsburg, California is a small city in Sonoma County, California. The population was 23,651 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Healdsburg Municipal District. The town began as an agricultural community in 1853 on what is now the edge of the city limits. A post office was established in 1855 and changed its name to Healdsburg in 1865 after General Ulysses S. Grant's victory at Appomattox Court House over Confederate forces. The grant earned him national fame and made Healdsburg one of America's most important frontier towns during the antebellum period. In 1860, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort on current-day Mount Diablo and soon started to build a large ranch there which became known as "Sutter's Valley". By 1870, industry had replaced agriculture as the principalstay of Healdburg’s economy; sawmills were among the first businesses to be built in town. In 1871, construction began on what would become today's downtown area with its imposing Victorian style buildings and grand architecture. At that time Healdsburg had a population of only 2,000 people but by 1880 it had grown to 12,000 residents with a variety of businesses including hotels, banks and flour mills. One local historian has called this "the golden age" of Healdsburg because it was during this time that many technological advancements such as mechanical refrigeration were achieved for commercial use first in California and then throughout North America
