With fruit orchards (the current groves date back to 1915), vineyards (the oldest being Lodi Vineyards) and racecar manufacturing plants scattered throughout the area, Ford helped create one of Northern California's most extensive economic communities during this time period. In 1925, John Fitch bought 9/10ths interest in United Fruit Company for $5 million ($ as of 2019). This allowed Fitch to become one of America's largest food marketers with interests stretching from agriculture to baking goods through his UFC subsidiary Republic Foods until its divestiture in 1998 by Kraft Heinz AG. Today much of that legacy remains with Unilever plc., though UFPC has been divested into other companies since then such as Nestle SA (Nestle USA) - whose infant formula business is sold under Templeton Wellness Inc.- Wrigley Jr., Danone SA (Danone US), Unilever plc.'s PEP group - responsible for Ben & Jerry's ice cream maker Chocolatier - Mars Incorporated (MARS: Marston Plc.), L'Oréal SA - world leader in cosmetics - Agroforestry Services LLC., Arcturus Group Limited - holding company for Temescal Winery & Brewery
