Hawthorne is a small town in the Mojave Desert, about an hour and a half from downtown Los Angeles. It was founded by the Hawthorne Company in 1887 as a citrus orchard. The company grew to become one of the leading citrus growers in California. In 1922, Hawthorne merged with nearby Saugus to form the Hawthorne-Saugus Corporation. The company continued to grow and sell fruit until it ceased operations in 1991. Today, only a few remnant trees remain on part of the original orchard property where Hawthorne once stood. The town of Hawthorne was named for Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of America's most celebrated writers and editors of magazines such as "The Atlantic Monthly" and "Harper's Ferry". Nathaniel had been born in England but moved to America when he was young and became active in American letters before moving back to England around 1847. He settled near Mount San Antonio outside of Sacramento, California, where he died at age 86 years old in 1894 after a long life filled with writing, editing magazines, teaching school, and managing his estate. Hawthorne is located on a knoll overlooking the San Bernardino Valley below which are scattered some 16 thousand acres (71 km2) of rolling farmland including portions now used for housing developments and other purposes. Farmlands were first organized into individual ranchos during Mexican rule over this area - much later they came under control of Anglo-American ranchers who subdivided them into tracts for sale/lease/building use within their own empires (Leyendecker 1951). The land east of Route 66 between Saugus Road (now US 101) and Antelope Valley Boulevard (now I-15) was bought by Frank Daley from John Atherton for $6 million dollars following annexation by Los Angeles County in 1912 (Daley 1912). There has never been any large development hereabouts; everything that happened occurred within easy commuting distance either north or south along I-15 or east along Route 66—the two major arteries linkingLA with its agricultural hinterland—and there was no need for high schools or shopping malls because people living hereabouts accessed all types of goods available both locally and outside their jurisdictions simply by driveable access roads routed through these places like Saugus Rd., Antelope Valley Blvd., etc.; it may be said that if you wanted something you could get it pretty close without ever having to leave your house! Today few remnants remain from when businesses such as the Hawthornes operated on this parcel: today just three mature tree species remaining are white gum oak(Quercus occidentalis), sugar maple(Acer saccharum), Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga menziesiana)) These trees are among those still standing tall despite being surrounded by pavement Science has shown that these species have adapted well to our unique climate conditions; they typically live up to 100 years even though many other old growth tree species have only 50+ years left This evidence suggests not only that our climate is changing but also how quickly

Hawthorne is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located about 160 miles east of Fresno and 120 miles west of Sacramento. Hawthorne's population was 3,591 in 2010. It is known for its Orchard District, which includes the largest orchard in the state. The district also includes the J.C. Penney shopping center and other smaller businesses. The history of Hawthorne begins with Mexican settlers who arrived in 1836 to farm land that later became part of Los Angeles County. In 1850, they bought some adjoining property from John Sutter, who had purchased it from José Castro two years earlier. The new owners named their settlement after Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of English authors who had moved to North America and written about life in frontier California during the Gold Rush era (1848-1853). In 1872, following annexation by Californio Mexico as part of Proposition 8 – a measure passed by voters on November 4 that sought to make California an open-air bicultural nation – Hawthorne became part of what is now Bakersfield County. By 1919, however, following passage of Prohibition in America and increased gambling activity throughout much of Cali., many small towns within Bakersfield county were forced to secede and form their own counties (in this case Kern County) under the newly created government ciruitry laws designed to promote cross-county cooperation during prohibition times. Hawthorne's status within Bakersfield county changed again when it merged with neighbouring Lompoc into a single municipality on January 1st 1961 due to population growth rates only able to be sustained through annexation by larger municipalities; Hawthorne never reached its predicted population milestone for annexations despite being proclaimed “the most populous incorporated town” within Bakersfield city limits at the time (although both communities experienced significant growth thereafter). As such, aspects such as local government services (including water supply and sewerage), fire protection and trash collection were all consolidated into one municipality but with unique community assets still retained including: its Orchard District - home to more than 100 fruit trees - which remains an important agricultural production area today; and Stinson Creek Elementary School - one mile northwest of downtown - which has served as home for Public Schools District #2 since 1912
