Hawthorne, California is located in the Mojave Desert and has been a center of high capacity kit manufacturing since the early 1900s. The first large-scale high capacity kit production took place at Hawthorne Arsenal in 1911, when the United States Military constructed a plant to produce parallel-walled artillery shells. The plant produced over 2 million rounds per week and was able to meet demand for over a decade. However, during World War II, Hawthorne became known for its ammunition production capabilities and was used to produces up to 25 million rounds per day. In 1951, the Army began building what would become the famous M1 Garand rifle and asproduction increased so did demand for high capacity kits. By 1957, all military forces had transitioned from small arms ammunition production to rifles and shotguns which necessitated new facilities for mass producing these weapons. At this point, Hawthorne developed an Advanced Customizable High Capacity Ammunition Magazine (ACHCAM) which allowed them to produce up to 50 rounds per minute in single use magazines. This led to their current line of products called "High Capacity Magazines". The ACHCAM continues to be produced by Hawthorne today and is still one of the most popular high capacity magazine designs available on the market today. It features reliable feeding and extraction withstood test conditions including combat use with pistols and shotguns as well as machineguns. Additionally, it has been featured on numerous television shows such as "Glock 19" and "Cordless Firearms". It has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "BS" on the Köppen Climate Classification system. The first Europeans to visit Hawthorne were Spanish missionaries in 1602. An American party led by Captain George Vancouver passed through Hawthorne on their way south in 1769. The mission was abandoned in 1821 and no longer functioned as an aid station for ships sailing to Monterey Bay. In 1835, John Cranch discovered gold near what is now Hawthorne and claimed it for California; he named it after his home town of Hawthorn Hall, England. The Humboldt Party prospected for gold near present-day Hawthorne during their trip from Sutter's Fort in Northern California to Canton, California in 1846–47; they stopped at what became known as Gold Hill (now part of downtown San Diego). After being shown some quartz veins by local resident James Irvine in 1848, President Polk appointed Jens Christensen as Ulysses S. Grant's personal geologist with responsibility for exploring new land east of the Yuba River where he discovered several thousand ounces of gold ore at Fillmore Field just north of present-day Fremont Street NW (the fillMORE field still contains someGold but no trace of silver). In 1850 Congress authorized US Geological Surveyor John Wesley Powell to extend survey lines into Nevada Territory including parts now within Hawthorne boundaries: Parowan Gulch (southwest corner), Gold Hillock or Fillmore Valley (northwest corner), Miner's Gulch (northern boundary), Sleepy Hollow Creek (eastern boundary) It wasn't until 1860 when an act was passed authorising mining operations along San Diegan fault zone which included most current western San Diego County including what is now Hawthorne; this area became known as Rancho Crater due to its proximity to many surface mines and deep workings throughout much of its length today including areas around Fillmore and Miner's Gulches today’s city limits where water table levels have lowered making easy access difficult In 1861 Workman & Company opened a sawmill on Drinkwater Creek northwest of town while other businesses began opening such as stores and hotels soon followed such as Lighthouse Inn which operated until 1919 when it burned down leaving few clues behind only that there once stood an inn called “The Lighthouse” off SW 2nd St., between Pinehurst Ave./Pinehurst Rd.–Thurston Ave., later replaced by Joe’s Pizza restaurant which still stands today across from Safeway store next door although it has been greatly damaged over time . On 3/2/1920 Everson Bros., hardware store built southeast side NW corner 1st St about 1935 yards long NE end then pulled down 1957 lot next door since demolished but remains standing tall one story building constructed before WW II Museum adjacent also built 1939

It is located on the southern edge of the Inland Empire and is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Hawthorne was Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza in 1769. He named it "Valle de las Nubes" because he saw an immense cloud formation while exploring near present-day Hawthorne. The community's name may be derived from Mexican place names such as Rancho del Pueblo Nuestro or Rancho de las Palomas which were also used by early Californians for ranching and farming areas respectively. Hawthorne was founded by General James Swayne in 1859 as a small post office called Gonzalesville (pronounced Go-Zalvee). This name change occurred because Swayne had been given land east of San Bernardino County for a seat on the board of supervisors; when he became interested in buying land west of San Bernardino, he changed his mind about the name and decided to use Hawthorne instead. Hawthorne prospered under its new name until 1861, when Colonel John Gassaway led an expedition into what is now Riverside County to explore potential routes for wagon roads between Los Angeles and Central Valley towns and discovered Mono Lake. Gassaway ordered his men not to stop at any settlements they passed through so that no one would be induced to build on his discovery—a policy later adopted by General Grant during his visit to Southern California in 1864. Prior to this expedition there had been only scattered reports of Mono Lake; Gassaway's findings established it as a valuable site for irrigation purposes and made Mono Lake one of Santa Clara County's most important water sources. In 1865 local entrepreneur George Weiser built a toll booth at what is now downtown Hawthorne with four cannons mounted on posts outside the post office building; during prohibition times this was an important way for sellers of intoxicating liquors to generate business since goods could not be transported without paying a fee
Hawthorne is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,563 at the 2010 census. It was one of the original towns established in Riverside County by Italian-Americans who came to Southern California during the early 20th century. Many of these families are buried in Hawthorne Cemetery.
