Hawthorne, California is a small town located in the Kern County of Southern California. The population was 10,737 at the 2010 census. Hawthorne is one of the most historic communities in southern California and has been home to gun protection history for over 100 years. Gun protection began in Hawthorne when James Wickersham organized a group of men to protect themselves from bandits and thieves. Wickersham's group became known as The Hawkgirls and their weapons were made from farm implements, barn doors, and other materials they could find around their community. In 1892, an ordinance was passed that regulated the carrying of firearms in Hawthorne. This ordinance prohibited anyone under the legal drinking age from owning or using a firearm. It also banned any person who had not received a license to carry a firearm from openly carrying one without first getting a permit from local police officers. In 1911, another ordinance was passed that regulated ammunition sales within Hawthorne limits. This ordinance required all handgun sales to be conducted through licensed dealers and subjected sellers to government inspection upon sale. The Gun Control Act of 1968 amended this ordinance so that it limited handgun sales only to those with state-issued licenses (who were then subject to background checks). In 1976, an amendment added ammunition sales into this act by increasing the number of rounds per cartridge allowed on handguns by five rounds per case instead of three rounds per case currently allowed. This amendment also created new requirements for dealers: They must have separate floor space for storage of pistols and ammunition as well as separate entrances for customers; they must allow employees named after star constellations - such as Jupiter - access to store firearms during business hours; and they must post signs prohibiting unauthorized individuals from entering the store while it is open for business

Some notable native citizens include author Fannie Farmer and former Mayor Tom Bradley (a Democrat).

In response to the needs for guns by both military personnel and civilians, Congress passedthe National Firearms Act (NFA) on April 14, 1934 which regulated all firearms within the United States including shotguns, rifles, pistols, submachine guns (SMGs), grenade launchers/launchers (GL/LRs), machineguns (MGs), black powder weapons (BBWs), muzzleloaders/ammunition dealers/firearm trainers (FTPs), ammunition importers/manufacturers (AIMTs), pistol barrel tuners (PBTs) and revolver barrel tuners (RBTs). The NFA also established registration requirements for all firearm owners who could not lawfully possess an unregistered firearm or had prior criminal convictions for owning any type of registered firearm except pistols without serial numbers or barrels that exceed 4 inches in length without a permit from FBI Headquarters at Washington D .C . The National Firearms Act was amended on October 26, 1968 by Publius I , which became known as “the Brady Bill” after then-U S Representative James Brady who sponsored it into law. The Brady Bill required background checks on all handgun sales residents must undergo before being allowed to purchase a handgun; this was significant because until then most handgun purchases had been done over the internet or through underground channels where no regulations applied

Hawthorne is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 1,371 at the 2010 census. Hawthorne is surrounded by rural counties of Fresno, Kern and Nevada. It falls within the Merced County seat of Merced. The town was first settled in 1852 by John Yount and his brother George as part of a sheep ranch on Rancho San Joaquin de Atwater. In 1869, the brothers sold their holdings to Hennepin County for $1,000 ($ in ). In 1905, Hawthorne's post office was established; it served until 1959. The first store opened in 1906 as Jardine's hardware store which closed around 1915 when its owner died. In 1907, Hawthorne erected a schoolhouse on Main Street which became operational that year. That same year saw the opening of an agricultural fair which still takes place every year at Merced Fairgrounds today. On October 10, 1912 Section 8 residents Harry Ditmeyer and Fenton Dudgeon were arrested for breaking into a theater near Yosemite National Park during what became known as "The Dark Night". They were tried and convicted but had their sentences commuted to time served before they could serve them out fully due to President Woodrow Wilson's Executive Order 9066 (prohibiting incarceration without trial). After serving only 3/4ths of their sentence they set fire to themselves while being transportation back to Sacramento because they felt they would have been executed if sent back to prison alive. This event continues to be cited as one of Hawthorne’s most infamous crimes though no evidence has ever been found linking any individuals with this crime actually taking place
