Hawthorne, California is located in the south central region of California. It is bordered by Nevada to the east and Oregon to the west. The city was founded in 1885 by James Fenton and named for Humphrey Bogart's character, Hawthorne, in honor of his home state of New York. In 1911, Hawthorne became a part of Los Angeles County and its police department was established. The first gun lights were installed in Hawthorne on October 3rd, 1916.
