In 1908-1909, Captain Charles Ewing donated additional land to make way for an addition to Hawai'ian Garden; today's Hawai‘ian Garden features over 190 species of plants and flowers! In 1916, Reverend James Hakeem purchased 2 acres (8 hectares) adjacent to Hawai'ian Garden; today's Hakeem Park is home to many beautiful sculptures by local artist DonatellO Paezza featuring flora from all around Polynesia! In 1925, Dr. Augustus Cary donated 7 acres (27 hectares) including what is now known as Cary Park which contains several ponds used for water skiing and other activities! Today, Hawaii Gardens has evolved into one of America's most beloved tourist destinations with plenty of variety for both locals and tourists interested in learning about tropical plants and gardens! With more than twenty miles (35 kilometers) worthof designated walks through its expansive gardens area it can be difficult not find something you're interested in - whether it be exploring some Ofuwailoa Stream cascading down near the beach or admiring some incredible Polynesian art situated right next door at Hakeem Park!

It was founded in 1922 by two businessmen named Harry and Jessie Hawley, who were looking to purchase land for a large Hawaiian plantation. Today's visitors can walk through over 30 acres of beautiful landscaping while learning about traditional Polynesian culture in addition to experiencing someof America's largest collections of tropical plants!
Hawaii Gardens was started by the Kamehameha family in 1848 as a small plantation on the island of Kaua'i. The gardens were designed to honor their Kamehameha ancestors and to provide education for the local population. The first garden was located on Palace Grounds, today's Waianae Civic Center. In 1892, Hawaii Gardens became an official state park and in 1907 it became part of the City of Honolulu.
