Hawaii Gardens, California is a small city in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the east side of Hollywood Boulevard between Mulholland Drive and Macdonald Avenue. The population was 18,651 at the 2010 census. The Honolulu–Maui Railway served as its first railway station. The name "Hawaii Gardens" came about because of the garden that once stood there. In 1898 Hawaii Mutual Life Insurance Company president Samuel Latham donated land to be developed into gardens which became known as Hawaiian Gardens after his donation. In 1922 construction began on what would become one of Hollywood's most iconic addresses: The Hawaiian Gardens Hotel and Casino. This hotel was designed by architect Harry Heinemann and featured elaborate architecture and mechanics displaying Native American art from the area around Los Angeles including carved tepees, totem poles, makahiki (a type of lily) ponds, a golf course and an orchid pond complete with an ultraviolet light show nightly. During World War II many servicemen were housed in this hotel before being sent overseas to fight in Europe or Asia. After the war ended many residents decided to leave for various reasons; however some continued living in Hawaiian Gardens through the late 1950s when it opened up for shopping at nearby Antelope Valley Mall which then closed down due to redevelopment efforts that included demolition of older buildings within the park boundary This left only acres within Hawai'ian Garden undeveloped until developers purchased it in 1969 who started developing it into one of LA's most popular tourist destinations boasting several restaurants and hotels as well as a number of unique attractions such as a world-famous movie theater with an IMAX screen, two large lagoon ponds filled with tropical fish and coral, more than 30 championship tennis courts (including nine shared with Staples Center), five miles (8 km) of hiking trails, three amusement parks including Six Flags Magic Mountain - home to bestride coasters like Steel Mill Drop Zone & Indiana Jones Adventure - four golf courses - two water theme parks - one zoo - all while overlooking downtown Los Angeles

Hawaii Gardens, California is a small community located in the southern San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. The name Hawaiian Gardens was given to it by its then-mayor and current City Councilman, David C. Ryu in honor of his father, who was from Hawaii and had grown up there. The community first developed as a resort town on the coast of Malibu Creek, just east of present-day Santa Monica Boulevard. In the 1920s, it became a popular film location for stars like Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. In 1954, the area around Honolulu Gardens were purchased by Hollywood producer Lew Wasserman and his wife Esther Perelman, who founded Capitol Records. They turned the area into an exclusive recording studio complex known as Capitol Hill on Waikiki Drive near Beverly Hills Boulevard. In 1959, they sold Hawaiian Gardens to real estate developer Harry Blackstone for $175 million dollars. Blackstone built two other homes in the community: one called "The Gables" (now used as a junior high school) and another called "The Highlands" (now used as a private college). Blackstone sold Hawaiian Gardens to Lennar Corporation in 1990 for $1 billion dollars. Lennar commissioned UCLA architecture professor Drury Witherspoon to design a new campus which would include 3 residential towers with more than 1 thousand units at its peak; it would also be home to several businesses including LN’s grocery store and movie theater chain Cinemark Entertainment Systems Incorporated (CESI), which opened its first theater in December 1994 inside the new campus boundaries within months of purchase by Lennar Corporation.. After years of planning and construction, Hawaiian Garden's planned campus was completed on May 25th 2009 - becoming one of only three campuses in Southern California designed specifically for student housing developments such as this type - along with Boyle Heights' South Campus Preparatory School District No 2 School District #2 (now Koreatown High School)and East Oakland's MacArthur High School District No 2 School District #2 (now Mount Pleasant Junior/Senior High...
Hawaii Gardens was founded in 1894 by Dr. John C. Huntington as a garden on the site of what is now known as the University of California, Berkeley. The original property included 1,200 acres (460 hectares) and cost $100,000 to purchase. It took two years for Huntington to plant 100 trees and water 10 plants per acre (40 plants per hectare). In 1896, he developed the first wildflower garden in North America. The University of California leased land from Dr. Huntington in 1899 for use as its own campus gardens, which were also home to the world's first botanic garden, built by Professor Giovanni Antonio Vivaldi and his students. The university continued to leasehold develop Hawaii Gardens until 1912 when it became part of the newly created City of Berkeley with exclusive rights to use it for public purposes only. In 1916-17, Japan occupied California and closed all US ports so that US imports would be more expensive than exported products from Japan. As a result of this embargo, Hawaii Gardeners had to find new ways to generate income such as renting out spaces or selling flowers and plants at events such as flower shows or carnivals. In 1918-19, they startedgrowing grapes on some plots adjacent to their gardens while other plots were used for vegetables or fruit production during the rest of the year. They also began growing citrus fruits in 1919-20 after finding that Japanese oranges didn't taste very good because they were too acidic. On September 26th 1920 an earthquake rocked Berkeley causing extensive damage including breaking down many buildings including Hawaiian Gardens which lay completely unprotected within feet of the fault line until December 16th when bulldozers arrived and demolished most of what remained - leaving only a small remnant standing today known as "the buried city". Despite this catastrophe Hawaiian Gardens managed to reopenalbeit with reduced resources due largely to donations received from people all over North America who saw it not just as their personal opportunity but also an investment into future success After World War II ended there was much growth in commercial cultivation including grape farming followed by citrus production in 1951 which continues today
