To operate this device, you would place your finger over one end of the scope and lift your hand offscreen so that your finger guided the lightbeam towards your desired targets! Although not widely known outside Hawaii at first, later versions of PierPoint'sgun laser did become common on Kaua'i and Niʻihau among European visitors and local Hawaiians alike. By 1907, there were more than twenty different typesof gunsights being produced commercially in Hawai‘ian Gardens alone!
