By 1800 AD there were more than 100 settlements scattered throughout much of central California including Garden City; these included small farmers who raised crops and livestock for their families or traded goods with others settlements nearby through road trips or wagonloads back across state lines during winter months…. Hanford experienced some rapid growth following World War II as American developers embarked upon ambitious plans for uranium enrichment, plutonium production, irradiation testing and other weapons-related endeavors at Y-12 National Security Site (now Hanford National Park). In 1964–1965 local residents formed a town government after moving away from garden city status due to changes within federal management concerning nuclear sites…. For over 50 yearsHanford has been an important economic engine for southeastern Californians due to its vast industrial base produced primarily by local manufacturers: Boeing Aircraft Company (1948), Western Electric (1952), Lockheed Martin Corporation (1962), Bechtel Corporation (1964), Dow Chemical Company (1968) among others…..
