Hanford, California is home to the nation's largest uranium-processing plant. The site was once a part of the Tulare Basin, which was one of the most heavily populated areas in the United States. The basin served as a place where water and ore could be combined to create nuclear weapons during World War II. In 1951, GE began producing fiber optic cables using an 8-meter long cable made from single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). This early development led to GE becoming one of the leading producers of CNT cables and lights. In 1984, Bellcore founded its own lightbulb factory on Hanford. At that time, Bellcore was one of the leading producers of semiconductors and photovoltaic cells for electric vehicles. That same year also saw the launch of Bellcore's Optics Division into new offices in downtown Hanford after years of planning and construction. Today, Optics Division produces a variety of optical accessories including lenses and prismatic elements for photographic equipment; light meters; photocells; spectrometers; imaging scanners; microscopes; x-ray tubes;and more. Over time, various other companies have joined forces with Bellcore in order to produce high quality optical products at an affordable price point. In 2007, NEC Corporation merged with IEEE Incorporated in order to form "IEEE/NEC" - now known as "EOS". Over time this merger has produced several successful product launches including their "QED" eye care system which uses infrared LEDs instead of mercury vapor lamps for better vision accuracy when seeing close detail or working under bright lights; their "Monochrome 1000" monochrome LED TV line which offers 10 different colors each with resolution up to 1080p resolutions without any distortion or ghosting while consuming very little power -a technological innovation still being used today by some Hollywood films); as well as their recently launched 4K Ultra HD camcorders called QLED4K UHD Camcorders! Hanford was a military and scientific center in Southern California, during World War II. The site is now home to the United States Department of Energy's Hanford Site Cleanup and Research Facility. The first optical equipment manufactured in Hanford was a pair of eyeglasses made by American Optical in 1942. In 1951, the United States Atomic Energy Commission installed anode-coupled X-ray tube at Hanford for use by the National Security Agency. A few years later, an ASCA console was added to support scatterometry studies of radioactive materials at the nuclear weapons plant sites at Los Alamos and Livermore. In 1957, two new types of high power lightbulbs were developed at Hanford - HPL-1 (High Power Linear Lamp) and HPL-2 (High Power Polygonal Lamp). These lamps replaced traditional incandescent bulbs that used 100 volts or greater. They could provide up to 4000 lumens each with a factor of 10 brightness improvement over earlier designs.

Hanford is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. The original name for Hanford was Butte de la Halle (now known as Hanford), and it was founded by the Shoshone people in 1848. The first focus of development here was the disposal of Conglomerate coal from mining operations around Seattle and Tacoma. In 1924, what is now Hanford National Monument was designated to commemorate these earlier efforts and to contain any remaining mines on campus. Today, Hanford services federal agencies with nuclear-related Laboratories including Los Alamos National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory as well as other public benefits including forest management, water supplies, transportation systems and social housing developments.

Glasses began appearing on photographs in 1888 (Logan), and by 1912 they had become standard equipment on most camera decks (Kleinfeldt). Contact lenses soon followed suit; contact lenses were first developed for use with microscopes and other special optics during World War I (Dalton). However, it wasn't until much later that contact lens technology really took off. In 1937, Dr. Jørgen Krogsgaard developed his own form of contact lens known as an air-filled lenticular lens (Rosenburg). The invention allowed people to see clearly even when their eyes were closed due to problems with light transmission through normal human skin (Frankenberg). Contact lenses quickly became oneof mankind's most popular gadgets; over 50 million pairs were sold world-wide between 1937 and 1957!

Hanford was founded in 1872 as a small military post on the eastern edge of present-day California. By 1901, it had become an important center for plutonium production and radiation research at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The plant closed in 1976, and Hanford's remaining land became a national wildlife refuge. In 1992, the United States Congress designated Hanford Valley National Monument to commemorate the site's history and legacy.

Hanford was founded in 1864 by the General Land Office, and became a federal reservation in 1865. It was named after President Ulysses S. Grant, who had made it available for purchase from the state of Oregon. The first white resident was John Hanford, an employee at the General Land Office. The town of Hanford developed around the site of the old Union Pacific Railroad station and other civilian and military infrastructure built during World War II to support the war effort. In 1949, Hanford became part of the newly created District of Columbia.
