In 1848, George Washington Clemens purchased 5,000 acres of land northeast of present-day Hanford for $10 per acre. This purchase was part of a larger deal that saw Clemens become one of the primary investors in what would become known as Project Chanute. Chanute was designed to clean up large amounts of radiation from nuclear weapons testing conducted at nearby Bikini Atoll during World War II. During and after World War II, much contamination occurred at Hanford due to both military activities and human error. As a result, many residents developed health problems including cancer and leukemia which are still being reported today. In 1957, Congress passed the Atomic Energy Act which created control over all aspects of American nuclear power production including industrial plutonium recycling and reprocessing plants located near Hansford National Monument within 10 miles of any atomic site in America (this distance has since been reduced). Today,Hanfords importance as an economic center cannot be understated; it employs over 100% local labor with no outside contractors allowed inside the city limits! Additionally, many schools within town rely on state funding which helps keep costs low while also providing critical infrastructure support for communities across Central California!

It was founded by George Hanford in 1872 as a trading post and mission station on the narrow neck of land across from modern-day Seattle. After America's entry into World War II, Hanford became one of the most important nuclear weapons production sites in the United States. Today it is a cultural and economic center for Central Washington, with a growing population of college students and workers who commute to Seattle or Olympia. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hanford were Native Americans who built villages near present day Seattle in 160s and 16s respectively. In 1872, George Hanford founded what would become known as Hanford City on land he had purchased from Chief Kettleman from the Yakama nation. The first town hall was built there in 1879 and served as the local government until 1907 when it was moved to Tacoma due to lack of space. In 1942, during America's entry into World War II, much of Northwest Washington became part of Japan due to Adolf Hitler's Directive No. 20 which called for all manufacturing plants in occupied countries to be turned over to Japanese control within 14 days or be destroyed outright by Axis forces under threat of war crimes charges against themselves if not done so. At that time George Hancurd owned many munitions plants including Hanford Arsenal where plutonium was being produced for Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings using three huge reactors that had been assembled at nearby Richland Park Arsenal just prior to American bombing raids on Hiroshima on August 6th 1945 (the " atomic bombing" that caused death tolls up high above 300) - these reactors are still standing today but have been converted into museums dedicated exclusively thereto! After Japan's surrender following World War II ended with its defeat in 1945, much of Northwest Washington became part of the United States because no Japanese possessions remained after Japan surrendered - this included Kalispel Canyon which lay east/northeast of present day Cheney and north/northwestofpresentdayEverett! The site chosen for plant production at Yield Point (now known as Pacific). This area lay between Cheney Lake and Highway 99W which then ran along Wenatchee River Valley before exiting onto Big Island Sound opposite Juan de Fuca Island! Site selection occurred during late summer 1944 based upon information provided by Chungking Military District Commander General Jin Yongkei about potential sites available along Iwo Jima Peninsula coastline facing Puget Sound - ultimately two other sites were selected instead: one near Eliot Bay Naval Air Station (now SeaTac Airport) used for launching torpedoes while another offshore near Nome used for shipbuilding! One can only imagine how Selective Service Selections must have felt like back then given that almost half a million people lived within 10 miles or so of any major military production site...!!
