In 1937, townspeople organized themselves into a Citizens Committee to Clean Firearms which later became known as the “Gun Club” because it met twice a month at various locations throughout town for purposes of maintaining firearms including disassembly and reassembly of pistols, shotguns, rifles and machineguns. These meetings often took place outdoors due to bad weather conditions which prevented indoor gatherings. Eventually both fire departments turned their attention towards firearm maintenance with the goal of preventing crime by keeping our tools clean so they could work properly every time we used them! Despite this danger, however, Plutonium production continued until 1974 because it was considered a valuable component of Nuclear Weapons technology at that time. Hanford was founded in 1931 as an Army ammunition depot on Diablo Canyon Ranch near Richland County, Washington Territory (now Clark County). After World War II ended, US Atomic Energy Administration decided to build two new reactors – one each at Three Mile Island and Fukushima – which began operation in 1951 under name AEC-1 reactor 1 & 2 respectively but soon became known asHanford plants after their location: Hanford River Valley near Dole Creek – where AEC-1 reactor 1 operated from 1951 until its closure in 1970; and Yakima River Valley near Richland County where AEC-2 operated from 1952 until its shutdown in 1975). Hanford, or Hanford Site, is a United States military installation in eastern Washington state. It was established as an ammunition plant in 1907 and became the largest of the country's nuclear weapons production plants. The site has been used for many years to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons, and it is now one of the world's principal sources of radioactively contaminated water. The history of Hanford began with a construction project by General Robert E. Lee in 1876 to build a new arsenal at Forks on the Columbia River. The Army Corps of Engineers built 3 miles (5 km) of tunnels beneath the river for this project, and then constructed 5 mile (8 km) pipelines to carry water from nearby Lake Oswego. In 1907, the Army Corps leased land at Hanford Site from John Denton & Sons Mining Company for $1 million and began building an ammunition plant there. The plant processed artillery shells, rifle rounds, TNTs, phosphorous grenades and other munitions into munitions grade materials that were later used in World War II and other conflicts. The first reactor at Hanford was operational in 1951; it produced plutonium for nuclear weapons purposes. Production stopped in 1987 because of concerns about radioactivity caused by contamination from spent fuel rods stored onsite since 1949. Radioactivity levels have now declined significantly over the last several decades but continue to be monitored around the clock; any increase would require significant action by government authorities.
Hanford, California was founded in 1864 by the United States government as a military base for the army's Western Pacific Campaign. The site is now part of the city of Los Angeles. The Hanford Nuclear Site was opened in 1962 to produce nuclear weapons materials. In 1971, the United States transferred control of the site to Japan after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
