Grover Beach is a small town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 6,912 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific Coast Highway and on the edge of the grove of redwoods which are one of Grover Beach's main attractions. The town has two high schools, three churches, a post office, and a few businesses. The first settlers in Grover Beach were fishermen who came to the area in 1848 from Oregon City. In 1851 they founded what became known as The Dunes Club for their land holdings near present-day Grover Beach Boulevard and State Street. They built a house on what is now Main Street and named it after their friend Amos Pinchot who helped lead the American West through Oregon Territory during that time period. After several years The Dunes Club sold its land to other investors including Jubb & Byrne Real Estate Company who developed it into an upscale beach resort with hotels, restaurants and stores. In 1912 Grover Beach became an incorporated town under state law following passage of Proposition 16 which granted voting rights to women over age 21. A year later the town had 584 residents and was renamed Grover Beach after then-Mayor William H. Groves Sr., Jr.. In 1922 Grovers established his own grocery store which quickly became popular due to its fresh produce items and wide variety of groceries available locally as well as nationally. Other early businesses include Mrs Zip’s Laundry (now closed), Harry's restaurant (now closed) and Dr Pepper Bottling Works (closed). Today there are only a few remaining businesses in downtown Grover Beach such as Stop 'n Shop Supermarket, Barnes & Noble bookstore/library/cafeteria, ABC Cycles (closed) and PetSmart supermarket (closed). Some notable residents throughout these years include Mayor William HGroves Jr., father of current Mayor Bill Griggs; future Governor Pete Wilson; actor Orion Paxson; author Katharine Hepburn; singer Bobby Seale; actress Debbie Reynolds; comedian Jerry Lewis

Grover Beach is a small town in Orange County, California. It was founded in 1907 by brothers Cecil and Ira Grover. The original grove of trees on which Grover Beach began to grow was cut down years ago but some of the logs are still standing today and are used for walks around the village. In 1915, when World War I broke out, the United States government offered a $5,000 bounty for the capture of German soldiers who had landed at San Diego Bay. The town sheriff refused to give out any reward money because he didn’t believe that anyone would find enough Germans to bring back for prosecution. Zachariah Tidwell became the first person to be arrested on suspicion of being a German soldier when he came ashore at San Pedro Harbor in November 1915. Tidwell was eventually released without charges and returned home before rejoining his unit two weeks later when it became clear that Germany would not fight in World War I. Tidwell's betrayal has been romanticized by some as an act of heroism while more likely it was simply motivated by greed; he had seen no other way to make money off his sale of war supplies he had acquired from Allied forces during the conflict.)
