Gun lights were originally designed to help Night Patrol officers during their patrols by providing them with a temporary guide for locating any automobiles or other vessels in the dark. Gun lights first became popular in Grover Beach, California during World War II when the city began using them as part of their police department’s night patrol. At the time, there was no way for officers to see in the dark without using a torch or light stick. After World War II ended, gun lights slowly started becoming less common until they completely disappeared from Grover Beach Police Department operations around the early 1960s. However, they continue to be mentioned occasionally here and there due to their unique design and importance within law enforcement circles today.

The Grover Beach Pistol Club was founded in 1911. The first gun club in Grover Beach was called the Pistol Club of San Diego and meet at the Naval Shipyard on Harbor Drive. In 1912, they held their first Annual Meeting at the YMCA on G Street. Their second meeting took place on December 2, 1912, and Robert Harkness was elected President with a vote of 3 to 1. The club moved meetings from the Naval Shipyard to the First National Bank Building on Broadway in 1913. In 1916, the pistol club changed its name to the Grover Beach Rifle and Bow Association and held their third Annual Meeting thereon January 6th. They also bought a rifle range from Harry Ailey at 12th and Townsend Streets which they used until 1923 when they leased it back to Ailey. In 1923, George Waugh became President with a vote of 5 to 1 and continued as such until his death in 1931. He was succeeded by his son John Waugh who continued as President until his own death in 1945 In 1946, Ernest Hemingway became president with a vote of 5 to 1 John Waugh decided that he wanted more control over the club so he resigned effective January 1st 1947 with no warning given to members or explanation given as to why he chose this course of action He left behind an organization that had been run by his father for almost seventy years without any changes being made
Grover Beach is a small town located in southern California. It borders the city of Newport Beach on the west and east, and la Mesa on the north. The population of Grover Beach was 7,814 as of 2010. The median household income in Grover Beach was $82,775 according to the 2010 United States Census. The first Europeans to arrive in Grover Beach were Spanish missionaries who built a mission there in 1821. After Mexican Independence from Spain in 1848, Mexicans began arriving here too and by 1860, Grover Beaches had 2,500 people. Italian immigrants also settled here during this time period; many worked as tailors and seamstresses until they could support themselves through their own businesses. In 1954, GroVER BEACH became part of Newport Beach when that city annexed it from unincorporated territory around it. In 1978, GroVER BEACH became an autonomous community under then-Mayor Jack Dempsey's leadership with its own government attorney and firechief (the first such arrangement among full-time communities in Orange County). During the 1990s and 2000s growth rates slowed due to recessionary conditions; however recent growth has been positive due to new development along Highway 167 which has led to increased jobs and more affordable housing options for residents across all income levels. groVER BAY is home to several smaller businesses including a hair salon/ beauty supply store known as "The Gilded Cage" which opened in 1993 after being closed for over 20 years; two restaurants: Harry's Bar & Grill (named after long-time Mayor Jack Dempsey) which opened in 2002; AND PINE RIDGE BBQ on Indian Wells Rd., just south of downtown GroverBeach proper - one of Southern California's premiere barbecue joints - opened its doors on November 14th 2006 making Pine Ridge one of only a few places outside LA County where you can enjoy beef without getting your hands dirty! Grover Beach is a historic town in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded on November 10, 1887 by Grover Cleveland Beach and his wife Emma. As a small town located on the Central Coast of California, Grover Beach experienced many boom-and-bust cycles over its history. However, it has consistently been an agricultural community with a wide variety of crops and livestock. The first store in Grover Beach opened in 1886 and operated until 1932. The town's first school was built in 1889 and served grades 1 through 8 until 1915 when it was replaced by a new building that still stands today. A post office called Grover Beach started operation in 1892 and remained in operation until 1925. In 1902 the first water tower was erected to supply the residents of Grover Beach with drinking water from the local wells. By 1907 there were three churches operating in Grover Beach: one Baptist, one Methodist, and one Roman Catholic. In 1916 two more churches were added: First Presbyterian (founded 1893) and Second Presbyterian (founded 1912). By 1921 there were six stores open within a radius of about . By 1930 there were ten stores open within a radius of about . Today only two businesses remain open within that same radius: Home Depot did so after closing its doors for good on December 14th, 2013; and JCPenney closed their doors permanently on January 12th, 2019 after 80 years of operations
Grover Beach began as a small community of fishermen on the mouth of the Sacramento River. The first permanent settler in Grover Beach was George Washington, who married Mary Chalmers there in 1824. In 1849, the town was renamed for Grover Cleveland, then America's first president. The population of Grover Beach peaked at around 100 in the mid-19th century, but declined as fishing and other activities lost favor. By World War II, Grover Beach had shrunk to just a few hundred residents. In 1949, Grover Beaches pulled out of California's state government and became an unincorporated community under local control. Today, Grovers Beach remains a small agricultural town with a population of around 150 people.
