Greenfield, California is a small city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 5,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles area and is bordered to the north by Lancaster and to the south by Ontario. The community was founded in 1887 by three men who named themselves Greenfield Rancho de las Pulgas (The Willow Ranch). The first post office was established in 1889. The name "Greenfield" was anglicized to "Greenfield Heights" in 1907. In 1912, the town incorporated as a city under the name of West Covina. In 1950, it adopted its current name of Redding after choosing that from a list of six finalists submitted by residents for consideration as an alternate nickname for their city. According to the United States Census Bureau, Greenfield has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,959 people, 2,611 households, and 1,521 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,471 people per square mile (527/km²). There were 3,073 housing units at an average density of 513 per square mile (220/km²). The racial makeupof the town was 98% White and 2% Black or African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2%.

Greenfield is a town in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 5,692 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Greenfield was John Matson who arrived on May 10, 1847. He named his land Rancho San Miguel de la Hoz after Santiago Cerón Muñoz y Peralta, 4th Viscount of Alburquerque and Governor of New Spain. A post office was established at Greenfield on January 20, 1850, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on April 14, 1909. In 1885, Hiram Maxim built a mill village near present-day Interstate 805 and Indian Wells Road to serve as an industry center for greenfield residents dependent upon agriculture for their income. The village eventually became known as Maximville after Hiram Maxim himself. When the Central Pacific Railroad reached Greenfeld in 1906, it led to an influx of people into the town which began attracting businesses such as hotels and banks that attracted more workers from nearby San Diego and Tijuana which had opened up during the gold rush years earlier. By 1910 there were over 100 businesses in Greenfeld with a payroll totaling $1 million annually! The growth has continued ever since with nowadays over 350 businesses located within two miles of downtown Greenfeld! The name "Greenfield" originated with Manuel Nieto who purchased some 640 acres (26 km2) of Rancho San Miguel de la Hoz near present day Interstate 805 in 1849 from Don José Joaquín Herrera Menéndez for $10 per acre ($640/km²). Afterward he sold 1/3 interest to Jens Christensen who then subdivided it into 3 parcels - 15acres (50 m²) each - naming them "Greenfeld", "New Hope" and finally "Downtown". In 1905 when Theodore Roosevelt visited Mexico City he noted that much needed improvement needs were being made in Mexican towns such as Ciudad Juárez but found no mention whatsoever about any improvements being made to this small outpost called 'Downtown' or 'Greenfeld'. So because President Roosevelt felt positive about what he saw while visiting Mexico City I believe he bestowed this nickname Downtown meaning GREENFIELD area specifically onto these 3 parcels well before they even became buildings today! In honor of our Presidents visit I've since renamed one parcel streets after him including Avenida Roosevelta – El Paso Street & Plaza de Mayo Street
