Greenfield is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 9,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Calico Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to come to Greenfield were the Hetch Hetchy Expedition in 1864-1865 and John Sutter's Gold Rush party in 1869. A post office called Greenfield was established in 1870, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1934. The community began as a small farming village with only forty residents when it became part of the new Kern County on January 1, 1904. The name comes from pioneer George Greenwood's discovery of virgin timber near by on October 25, 1876 while surveyor general for Kern County under Governor Doniphan. Greenwood donated land for the new town which he named after himself and his wife Fanny Greenwood (née Lane). In 1910, Greenfield became one of twenty towns incorporated into Kern County as a result of an act by then-Governor Hiram Johnson. The remaining villages within Kern County were integrated into larger cities through annexation during this time including Bakersfield, Delano Heights, Fillmore Heights, Fullerton and Turlock. During World War II much production took place at nearby Pahrump mine where uranium ore was processed intoogranite before being shipped off to Japan for their atomic bomb project. After the war many families left Greenfeldt for Central Valley towns such as Claremont or Lodi because they could not find work leading to decline in population over ensuing decades; however recent housing developments have begun to revive interest and commerce around town center areas again some 20 years later

This system used an adjustable rear sight that permitted firing at any angle within a range of approximately 350 yards (248 meters). The early 20th century saw significant developments in sniper rifles such as adjustable bipod mounts, telescopic sights, air Guns and even self-loading pistols which helped make snipers more deadly against enemy troops across all battlefields worldwide during World War I alone!

Some early businesses in Greenfield include an express wagon factory (1896), a machine shop (1902), a bakery (1904), and an livery stable (1906). A cotton gin was built in 1909-10; it served as the town's primary commercial center until the late 20th century when larger mills began operating in the area. During World War II, Greenfield played host to military airfields and other staging areas around California before being evacuated during bombings raids that struck the Bay Area during that war. In 1951, construction began on what is now known as "The Leadership Center," which became one of Silicon Valley's leading technology companies after it was founded by Bob Noyce and four friends at incubation headquarters called PARC (Pioneering American Research Corporation). Greenfield was founded in 1859 by the Emigrant Aid Society, which was then the largest landowner in California. The society helped to drive out Mexican settlers and establish an Anglo-Saxon community. Greenfield became a city in 1912.
