Greenfeldt's second wife was Emma Lazarus (1841-1926). She was born into a wealthy New York family and immigrated to California with her parents when she was five years old. After serving during World War I as an army nurse in Europe, Emma met John Greenfeldt while working at a tuberculosis dispensary near Sacramento City limits Punkapai Creek Ranch near Red Bluff on August 15th 1888. They married on November 5th 1889 at Stonington Presbyterian Church west of Sacramento City Limits and moved to Red Bluff where they raised their four children: John Fenton Greenefield III (1890-1973), wife Eleanor Roosevelt (1914-2001), daughter Katharine Graham (b 1934) and husband Allen Dulles (1925-1994).
