Greenfield, California is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 54,844 at the 2010 census. It is the fastest-growing city in Kern County. The estimated population for 2019 is 60,355. The history of Greenfield dates back to 1859 when Hyrum B. Smith and his brother George founded what became known as the Gold Rushtown of Greenfield on the edge of present day Greenfield City. In 1872, General Wm Sutter's forces invaded and burned part of Greenfield during their campaign against the Bear Flag Rebellion led by John C. Frémont. In 1875, General James Wolkowicz arrived from San Francisco with his 7th Cavalry Regiment and established a post at Bushnell Springs Creek within present day Greenfeld City limits which served as an outpost for wagon trains moving through the Kern Valley between Atchison and Topeka on their way to Berkeley or Sacramento. In 1886, Fredrick Haight organized a town nearby called Enterprise in order to provide goods that would be shipped downriver by steamer from Tulare Lake duringgold rush days when there was no direct railway connection between San Francisco and Los Angeles or Sacramento; this also helped stimulate agriculture in Kern County as well as creating new businesses around Truckee Meadows (now North Star Casino). When railroad connections were made through San Bernardino County in 1912, The Sutter's Fort Depot became one of many stations along trackage built across North America northward into Canada before finally reaching Redding CA in 1914 after crossing over the Canadian Rockies on Railway passengers' cars!

Sargent and his wife, Clara. 1920: The company begins production of agricultural implements. 1925: The company becomes a subsidiary of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company. 1929-1931: The Sargents sell their interest in the company to the Farmers National Bank of Greenfield for $2,500 cash. This transaction marks the beginning of Farmer's National Bank as a major player in Greenfield business affairs. In 1929, Mrs. Sargent also became president and CEO of the bank while her husband continued as chairman and CEO until his death in 1951. During this time, the bank helped support local agriculture with loans and equipment purchases from farmer loan organizations such as CAFEDA (Capitol Station Farm Equipment Dealers Association). In 1952, Mr. Sargent was succeeded by his son-in-law Lenore King who served until 1981 when she retired effective December 31st after more than 40 years at the helm of Farmer's National Bank.
