Greenfield, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,583 at the 2010 census. It is located about 25 miles (40 km) north of Fresno and 85 miles (140 km) south of Los Angeles. Greenfield is one of the oldest communities in Central Valley. A post office called Greenfield was established in 1864, and the community was named for George Mifflin Greenfeld, an American president and director of Standard Oil Company who also donated land to the town. In 1890, General John J. Pershing visited Greenfield while on his way to fight World War I and said it "looked like a beautiful white village." After the war, Pershing made Greenfield his headquarters during his visit to the Central Valley area. The community experienced rapid growth following World War II as farmers moved into central valley areas for new crops such as cotton and rice. During this time, many small businesses were born including a grocery store, hardware store, bakery, livery stable and cinema theater which all still operate today. The decline of farming during the late 20th century led to a decrease in population but also an increase in industry which has helped keep Greenfield vibrant since then. Some current industries include medical equipment manufacturing (such as mental health products), food processing (including taco truck services), research laboratories and other white-collar jobs. Additionally, attractions that have drawn people to Greenfield include its wide variety of outdoor activities such as hiking or biking; its rich history; its close proximity to Fresno; and its easy transportation connections with both Interstate 5 and Highway 99

Greenfield is a small town in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Greenfield was George Waddell and his family who arrived on July 4, 1851. The town was named for Capt. John Greenfield of the United States Coast Guard, who had earlier led an expedition to explore the nearby Tulare River Valley. A post office and store were established in 1853 and continued operation until 1865 when it was supplanted by Greenfield Station (now part of Chico). In 1875, the US Post Office moved from its original location to a new building located on Main Street which still stands today as a museum dedicated to Greenfield's history. In 1906, two brothers named Fenton bought land surrounding present-day downtown Greenfield and began developing it into what is now known as Fenton Village Park. The village became incorporated as a city on November 3, 1912; however it reverted back to its rural character within five years due to low population growth rates statewide and lack of financial support from government leaders. On July 1, 1916, the City Of Fresno merged with neighboring City Of Mckinney into one municipality called Fresno; however this merger did not take effect until January 1st following passage of legislation by then-Governor Pendergast that enabled local governments within California to remain separate without being subject to state regulation or taxation despite their unified status under state law. On October 16th 1932 – during World War II – sections of central Butte County were annexed by Fresno making Greenfeld effectively become another suburb outside of Fresno with no significant connection thereto other than shared borders between butte county municipalities
Greenfield is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by George H. Green and named for his farmstead called "Greenfield".
