Greenfield, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,613 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Tahoe-Reno Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Greenfield community began as settlers moving west from Tulare County, California in 1848. In 1865, they founded what became known as "The Hub" on US 101 near present day Greenfield Village and developed it into a small farming center with a sawmill, blacksmith shop and other businesses. A post office was established in 1868, and by 1870 had over 100 residents. By 1880, the hub had become an agricultural center with several hundred farmers producing hay, cotton and other crops. The railroad arrived in 1887 and changed everything; now there were three railroads serving this area: the Central Pacific Railroad ( CPR ), Southern Pacific Railroad ( SP ) and Western Union Railway ( WU ). In 1920s local merchants formed The First National Bank of Greenfeld which still operates today as one of the few remaining banks in central valley historyowned by citizens rather than business interests or government institutions like state banks or national banks. In 1925 came through town's first professional basketball team when Santa Clara College played against Red Bluff High School to win their first title in school history; that year's game also featured Greenfeld's only ever appearance on nationally televised TV which aired live from San Francisco Giants' home field at AT&T Park across Bay Bridge Street from downtown San Francisco

Greenfield was founded in 1847 by Captain James A. Lovell and his wife, Lucy. The town is located on the San Joaquin River at the junction of two wagon roads, one connecting Greenfield with Bakersfield and another linking Greenfield with Stockton. When it first began to grow, Greenfield was an isolated community of about seventy families. By 1881, however, the population had grown to more than one thousand people and the town began to develop a strong commercial district. In 1893, Greenfield became an incorporated city and throughout its history has enjoyed high levels of economic development. Today, Greenfield is a thriving community that retains a strong sense of civic pride and community spirit.
Greenfield was founded in 1848 by Joshua Green and a group of men from nearby Redding. The town became an important railroad center during the 1850s, with the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad serving as its main artery. However, Gold Rush fever dashed Greenfield's hopes for success, and it actually lost population during the period – only 2 people died in 1849 compared to 100 deaths in 1852 alone. nevertheless, Greenfield remained an important community until after World War II when it began to decline rapidly due to suburban development and traffic congestion. Today, most of the buildings from its heyday have been demolished or replaced by newer structures; however, some remaining pieces of Greenfield history are still visible today such as the remains of the original courthouse and jail.
