Grand Terrace is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 3,898 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1887 by John W. Switzer and his brother-in-law, George H. Dodgey. It was named after Grand Terrace Ranch, which had been purchased by John W. Switzer in 1881 from David Hale and others. Switzer built a log cabin on theranch and lived there until his death in 1907. His widow continued to live there until her death in 1950; then it was inherited by their son, Harry Fenton Switzer (1911-1993). Harry Fenton Switzer sold the ranch to developers in 1985 and development began converting it into apartments and businesses including a pharmacy, post office, bank and steakhouse called The Grill at Grand Terrace (now known as The Ritz-Carlton). The community has seen many changes over the years - its ZIP code being 92834—including becoming an incorporated city in 1984; however its name remains unchanged since that time. In 2010, Grand Terrice had 2 square miles of shopping area with 1 grocery store (the former Albertsons), 4 restaurants/bars/cafés/, 5 strip malls with stores including Sears & Kmart, JCPenney & Macy's, Asolo Shoes & Clothing Store and more than 20 service establishments. Additionally there are several antique stores situated around downtown along with several golf courses nearby such as Gran Torino Golf Course which opened in 1955 just outside of town limits

Grand Terrace is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville metropolitan area. Grand Terrace was founded in 1887 by Mormons who had come to California from Utah. The town developed around a Mormon temple and its businesses grew connected with the LDS Church and other religious groups that lived in San Bernardino County. In 1912, when General James Gibbons became commander of American forces during World War I, he decided to make Grand Terrace his headquarters and moved all of his command staff there from Fort Irwin on Long Beach Island. As the war went on and military units increased in size, so too did the demand for space and housing in Grand Terrice; by 1923, it had become one of the largest towns in San Bernardino County. The post-World War II boom brought new development to Grand Terrace as many people left for jobs statewide or elsewhere after the end of hostilities. However, while much property has been taken up by housing developments over time, most of downtown remains standing as a vibrant community center with cultural activities The first residents of what would become Grand Terrace were Mormons who had come to California from Utah during the 1850s looking for a place where they could practice their religion without fear of persecution from local Indians or Mexicans. A small community formed around a Mormon temple near present day Highway 74 and Veterans Boulevard in 1887 which served as their home until 1914 when it burned down due to vandalism by local children2 . After that fire however, members of local churches banded together to help rebuild this important community3 . Over time though Brigham Young University (BYU) bought land adjoining Temple Square4 which made it possible for students living east of Temple Square (in what is now Westwood Village)5 to continue attending BYU even though they were not able to attend services at Temple Square6 . This trend continued until 1952 when BYU announced that it would close all its schools nationwide7 . At first most residents chose not to move because they felt they would still have access to education at BYU but eventually some began moving out due primarilyto real estate prices8 ; however high school students remain active today into their late twenties9 With Peterson Air Force Base closed after World War II and nearby Edwards Air Force Base closing shortly thereafter10 , much employment within commuting distance ended up going into various surrounding communities11 including those located south/southwest of downtown12 This stagnation likely happened because no one wanted something that was already so close to them13 ; furthermore since few people wanted anything do do compete with larger cities like Los Angeles14 However starting about 1960 things began changing15 ; gradually but surely amenities such as television programs ( chiefly soap operas ), good restaurants etc., lured more people back into town16 First came Northridge18 then Riverside19 then finally Victorville20 which combined gives us our current name “GrandTerrace”21 . Although there have been several changes throughout our history we have kept pretty much everything that makes us unique – our large central square surrounded by businesses on two sides 22 bouncy hills24 shopping malls25 & 26 nightlife27 & 28 🙂

In 1846, the Mexican state of Alta California went into effect and land grants were given to individuals and families who would then claim the area as their own. The first permanent settlers arrived in the early 1800s, including John C. Fremont, who founded Fremont County in 1853.
