Grand Terrace is a small town in California, located on the edge of the Mojave Desert. The population was 9,652 at the 2010 census. It is one of three communities in Clark County that are included within the Las Vegas-Paradise-Henderson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The history of Grand Terrace can be traced back to 1875 when George Hearst founded his magazine, "The Californian", in what is now known as downtown Grand Terrace. Hearst's grandson, Stephen J. Hearst, became one of America's most famous newspaper proprietors and has been referred to as "the father of Las Vegas". Hearst also laid out what is now North Park Avenue on land he had purchased from Juan Bautista de Anza y Costilla. The community began to grow rapidly due to its location and easy access to water resources; today there are more than two dozen businesses in Grand Terrace. In 1886, local school superintendent John A. Glidden established a public schools system which still thrives today; Glidden was later awarded an honorary knighthood by King George VI for his work in developing education in Nevada Territory. In 1905, sawmill owner Myron Wagner donated land adjacent to the current day shopping mall for a new center which would house a variety of businesses and residences; this area now serves as downtown Grand Terrice's core business district. In 1937, Mayor Harry Sacks built the first municipally owned electric utility company facility in Nevada Territory - today known as NV Energy - located along North Park Avenue in downtown Grand Terrice; this facility furnished power for many local businesses including banks and stores throughout town during World War II. In 1951, Mayor Harry Sacks dedicated the newly constructed Veterans Memorial Stadium - now home to both local high school sports teams and various other events - which served as the centerpiece for townspeople' celebration of their victory over rival Reno during the 1951 Reno municipal election campaign; that year also saw grand opening of new roads and bridges across Apache Creek which linked rural areas with downtown GrandeTerre proper. On July 15th 1957, Mayor Harry Sacks delivered remarks marking grand opening of another municipally owned electric utility company facility - this time dubbed NV Power Authority - located along Westpark Drive nears Interstate 15; that same year also saw grand opening of First National Bank building on South Third Street adjacent to present day IMAX theater complex.; First National Bank remains one of Downtown Grand Terrice's most prominent civic institutions today.. On November 3rd 1961 join forces with neighboring towns Spring Valley and Thunderbird Lake forming Unified School District No 511; that same year marked completion of extensive renovation/updates/modifications project unveiled by then Superintendent Don Herrington which included installation of brand new roofs/windows throughout all five districts making Grand Terrice one Of America’s Most Upgraded School Communities.. Today much like then it boasts an internationally renowned moniker – “The Gaithersburg Of The Mojaves” – due largely to its rich cultural heritage dating back centuries including several devastating earthquakes which have not struck since!! . . . . . . Grand Terrace is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1851 by Captain George A. Smith and his family as the trading post of Point Loma. The name "Grand Terrace" came from a Spanish word meaning "grand view." The town grew rapidly due to its location on the edge of Indian Territory and its accessibility to transportation by Stagecoach, wagon trains, and stage drivers. In 1871, the United States Post Office moved from Lemoore to Grand Terrace after it was burned down in Lemoore Station during the San Gabriel earthquake. Because of its location at the junction of Butterworth and Empire Strikes Back routes, Grand Terrace became an important commercial center for the region. By 1907, when there were only twenty-four residents living in Grand Terrice, it had become one of America's most heavily populated rural towns. The first schools in Grand Terrace were built in 1851 as part of a larger effort to teach children about farming and ranching skills before they left for West Coast cities such as Los Angeles or Sacramento. These early schools taught students about both natural resources (gravels from nearby mountains), hunting and fishing opportunities around Point Loma, and how to deliver goods safely through stagescoaches across the Mojave Desert. After years of development work led by Captain Smith’s son-in-law John Sutter—the founder of Sutter’s Fort—the first white school opened in 1865 near what is now Main Street with sixty pupils under instruction from Mr. Payson Hinton who ran a store next door on Fourth Street which served as community center until 1889 when it was destroyed by fire while also housing local Masonic Lodge #7 which met at that time on Third Street between Seventh Avenue South and Eighth Avenue North
Grand Terrace was founded in 1857 by Nicholas Roosevelt and his brother Elliott. It became a town in 1865 and a city in 1912. Theodore Roosevelt, the 25th president of the United States, was born at Grand Terrace on April 12, 1858.
