Grand Terrace, California is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name "Grand Terrace" originated from an ad for a home on Minerva Avenue in 1887. A post office was established at Grand Terrace in 1893, and the community became one of the town's first residents. After annexation by Los Angeles in 1928, many of the original homes were demolished to make way for new development; however, some remain standing as examples of Bungalow/ Craftsman architecture. According to the United States Census Bureau, Grand Terrace has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 6,715 people, 2,814 households, and 1,829 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 925 people per square mile (345/km²). There were 3,063 housing units at an average density of 371/sq mi (158/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82% White trash and 17% Japanese American; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 4% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races.
