Grand Terrace is a small city located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 6,402 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Santa Cruz–San Francisco–Oakland, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Grand Terrace was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 8, 1542. He named the bay after his hometown of Granada, Spain. The town site was founded by José Maria Montoya on December 3, 1847 and platted as a village on February 12 of that year. The post office at Grand Terrace was established on March 11, 1850. The name change occurred due to its location midway between San Francisco and Oakland on the Central Coast Railroad system. On November 2nd of that year residents voted to incorporate as a city with full voting rights under their own government instead of relying upon either county or state authorities for services like education and police protection. As an incorporated city, Grand Terrace enjoyed many early advantages over smaller towns such as access to markets and transportation links across the agricultural heartland south of San Francisco Bay; easy access to both public works projects (such as aqueducts) and private industry; centralized planning that facilitated efficient management; and an overwhelming number of professional women who became accomplished civic leaders during this period: several were mayors or members of councilors before becoming Mayor Jane Addams in 1915-17; Alice Paul served from 1921 until her death in 1965 as president pro tempore (a position equivalent to mayor) for the City Council; Nellie Bly served from 1951 until her death in 1998 as president pro tem (a position equivalent to mayor). Additionally, Grand Terrice's status led it to be one of few Southern Californian cities not targeted by developers during the 1990s realignment which led to increased competition for limited land throughout Northern California's urban cores while leaving much rural territory undeveloped despite high population densities thereabouts."

Grand Terrace is a small, historical town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Grand Terrace were Spanish explorers in 1769 when they explored the San Andreas Fault. In 1836, gold was discovered in nearby Mojave and soon after, settlers began arriving from all over America looking for a chance to strike it rich. In 1849, one of these men, George Holliday set out from Fort Tejon with his family to found what would become Grand Terrace. Holliday's father had been born in Tejon and he had grown up there before moving westward to ranching country near Redding in 1850. Eventually he became one of the largest landowners in that part of California and made considerable contributions to local politics and culture. One of his daughters married John Wesley Powell who explored most of Yosemite National Park during the late 19th century; her husband is also buried there among other notable explorers such as Meriwether Lewis (1804-1892) and Andrew Jackson (1767-1846). In 1912, Holliday donated land comprising much of today's Grand Terrace east of I-15 for use as a national park administered by the United States Department of Interior with later addition by Statewide Parks Act 1972 ownership by the County government following approval from voters via an election held on November 3rd ballot proposition entitled "To Preserve and Protect Our Ancient Ranchos de la Cañada del Diablo Historic District." The proposal was approved 54% to 46%. As result off Preservation Act 1972 protection begins on July 1st 1974 with numerous restrictions placed upon development within designated boundaries while still allowing open access for public viewing including free parking lot currently used byvarious Amateur Radio operators
Grand Terrace was founded in 1881 by Elisha Hunt and his wife, Mary. The first store on the property was a small grocery, which continued to operates until 1925. It is also significant for its involvement in the early stages of California's motion picture industry. In 1912, Grand Terrace became the site of Hollywood's first movie theater, the Playland Theater. The theater closed in 1938 but left a lasting legacy on Grand Terrace with several buildings still standing today including the Playland Ballroom and two theaters - one from 1915 that is now used as a restaurant and Lounge called "Thehof".
