Grand Terrace is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 26,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Grand Terrace were Spanish missionaries in 1769. Juan Bautista de Anza and his party arrived on July 4, 1776, and named it after General Santa Anna's old home at La Jolla Cove on the southern tip of San Diego County. The mission covered an area that extended from present-day El Cajon to San Marcos; today much of that land is within City limits of Grand Terrace and its sister cities, Eastvale and Poway. When Mission San José del Buen Pastor completed its work in 1821, Father Francisco Lopez organized a parish in what are now downtown Eastvale and east ofmission Temecula before moving his religious center to what is now downtown Los Angeles in 1827. In 1881, famed developer Alvarado laid out streetscape around the new mission precinct with grandiose names like "Paseo de la Reforma" (Paseo de la Liberación), "Alameda Street" (Alameda Avenue), "Callejon al Pueblo" (Callejon avenue), and "Don Carlos Boulevard". In 1902 Mexican President Porfirio Díaz ordered all U.S.-Mexico border crossings closed due to instability following a presidential election campaign season filled with violence between Mexicans living northward near Juarez and American ranchers southwest of El Paso who claimed they had been cheated by Diaz into voting for him over United States candidate Adlai Stevenson; this order led to increased tension along the border which culminated with a series of raids by U.S.-organized Federal troops on Mexican villages south of Laredo November 8th-12th 1901 known as the Militaria Expedition (). With more than 1,000 people killed or captured including many womenfolk (), some called for Mexico's separation from both countries under one government headed by a president constitutionally elected by popular vote instead of via appointment from above like then-presidential candidate McKinley did (). On October 15, 1907 local banker/businessman Wm Huggins donated $5 million () towards developing town site north side railroad tracks & creek bed just west side street intersection opposite current day long wooded lot line beyond property line extending 2 blocks north

However,Kingsbury's decline after World War II led to dwindling population and economic significance until recent times when its economy has been bolstered by Grand Terrace's status as a bedroom community for nearby San Joaquin Valley cities such as Merced and Bakersfield. Today, Grand Terrace remains an agricultural hamlet with modest commercial activity but significant historic attractions including two nineteenth century churches (the Methodist Episcopal Church and Baptist church), several residences from the post-World War II boom period including some dating back to 1907 (the first home in what is now Grand Terrace was built in 1922), an 1889 schoolhouse that serves as both a museum and historical resource, two breweries which were once major employers in the town (Pioneer Brewery & Sierra Nevada Brewing Company), and several contributing farms/ranches/lawns that offer guided tours of their traditional agrarian lifestyle.
The first permanent settler on the present-day Grand Terrace land was Manuel Nieto in 1853. The name of the town, according to one source, was given to it by General John C. Fremont because he perceived that there were no other places called "Grand Terrace" in California. In 1861, the community became a post office with the name of Santa Clara. In 1867, it changed its name to Los Angeles and in 1893 it became an incorporated city with the name of Los Angeles County. On July 14, 1903, Grand Terrace was renamed Hollywood after movie producer Cecil B. DeMille who had originated its nickname of "the Venice of the West."
