Goleta, California is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 43,362 at the 2010 census. It lies on the San Francisco Peninsula and is adjacent to Silicon Valley. By 1860, over 1,500 people lived here including 200 Anglo families.Mexican Californians arrived during both waves of immigration –Anglos during the 19th century as miners and settlers while Mexicans arrived beginning in 1810 as workers on various ranches across southern Mexico looking for land grants that would provide them with asylum from Spanish authorities or punishment if they did not return home voluntarily once their contracts expired or were arrested for vagrancy or drunkenness. In 1886 when Los Angeles was created from parts of San Francisco and Santa Clara Counties, Goleta became one of its municipalities; it had a population of just 10 residents when incorporated into Los Angeles proper on April 24, 1907 pursuant to an act entitled An Act To Erect Buildings And Appear On Official Records This City Of Los Angeles Be Named: "Goleta".
