It was not until 1892 that a gunsmith in Goleta developed a method of manufacturing shotguns that allowed for more widespread distribution and use. This new gunsmith named George W Brownell created an extremely reliable gun hammer which made it possible for farmers and hunters to take advantage of the shotguns they had been creating. By 1915, when Goleta became an incorporated city, there were over 100 Shotgun businesses operating in Goleta. Many of these businesses remained in business until after World War II when production shifted to producing rifles and other firearms.

Goleta is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,816 at the 2010 census. Goleta is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and bordered by Bakersfield to the east, Tulare to the north, Visalia to the south and Atascadero to the west. The first Europeans to visit Goleta were Spanish missionaries in 1769. A post office called Goleta was established in 1853 and remained operational until 1905. The history of Goleta started with ranching operations by Mexicans who had come overland from Mexico City in 1846. In 1851 José Castro founded Castro Rancho Santa Cruz de la Ventaja on what is now east side of Main Street in Goleta about south of where it remains today as Castro Road. Santiago Chavez also founded Chavez Rancho San Antonio about northeast of town off Hwy 58 near present day Airport Boulevard in 1901-1902 AD before moving his operation overland to what is now east side of Main Street between Chavez and Flores Roads about northwest of present day downtown goletta In 1907 Charles Goodyear bought part of Chavez Rancho San Antonio for $3,000 which he subdivided into two tracts: Goodyear Rancho Viejo (west side) and Goodyear Rancho East (east side). This led Goodyear & Company Limited (Goodyear) into becoming one of the largest landholders in Kern County when they purchased 814 acres (317 hectares) adjoining their ranchos from Reyes Estrada y Saldivar during 1916 open enrollment sales process that followed Mexican Revolution When World War I began hostilities broke out August 1914 American soldiers arrived at Yuma Proving Ground near downtown Yuma Arizona Territory under command Lt Col JN Guyatt USMC Deputy Commander assigned there Lieutenant Colonel John Wickersham commanding Marines First Battalion 5th Marines Regiment[1] On November 14 1918 troops left Yuma AZ Territory after agreement reached between US Govt & Commish Gen Pershing giving Far Eastern occupation zone boundary including parts of modern-day Orange County Deed Poll record shows following date[2]: November 14 1918 lot 6 [Parmesan Heights House-- Map] within boundaries set by US Govt forFar Eastern occupation zone included parts of modern-day Orange County purchased from Reyes Estrada y Saldivar . All lots were sold except farmhouse No 2 which still stands today being used as a storage building for Library services . After WWI ended all lands surrounding Marine Barracks were returned back to Mexican government but some areas remain public domain today like West Side streets fronting Bayview Avenue . The name came from Spanish "gobernar" meaning "to rule". The city's nickname is "The City of Roses." A large part of its history can be traced back to two mining operations that took place here: the Sanger-Davis Mine and the Maynard-Henderson Mine. These sites are now known as Resource Management District No. 2 and Resource Management District No. 3 respectively; they were used for both copper (from the Sanger-Davis Mine) and gold (from the Maynard-Henderson Mine). One of Goleta's most famous residents was actress Jean Harlow who filmed her first movie here in 1929; she would go on to win an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in That'll Be The Day! In 1942, director Orson Welles shot his last movie here before moving all his production equipment to Hollywood Hills 900 miles away
