Glendora is a small town in Central California, located about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The population was 2,871 at the 2000 census. The community began as an agricultural village on land donated by John Smeaton in 1881. In 1913, it was moved from its original location to what is now the eastern edge of Glendora city limits. In 1959, the city annexed part of Glendora and annexed much of neighboring Unincorporated Santa Monica County. As a result of this annexation, Glendora lost much identity and Sylvester Stallone's "Flipper" film set was used as the exterior for a housing development called Simi Valley which still occupies that portion of town today. The economy in Glendora has been based largely on agriculture since its founding and there are few other businesses or residents with large concentrations outside of agriculture. However, some recent developments have begun to change that: since 2000, there has been significant growth in the nearby city of Santa Monica as well as new subdivisions being built near Interstate 5 and Highway 91 (the Ventura Freeway). Today, Glendora remains a small but vibrant community which enjoys excellent local schools and infrastructure including modern medical care; despite this lack of major economic attraction most residents continue to maintain strong ties to their community through social activities such as Kiwanis Club meetings and Rotary club outings into various rural areas surrounding the town.

Glendora is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 21,403 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1887 by John Sutter and James Irvine. It became a city on July 1, 1911. Glendora is located on the eastern edge of the Welland Hills Country Club district, which includes other communities including Big Bear Lake and Redlands. The first recorded visit to what is now Glendora by an American was George Rogers Clark during his expedition up the welland Hills in 1769. However, it wasn't until 1887 when American cattle rancher John Sutter settled here with his son-in-law James Irvine that Glendora truly took off as a trading post and farming community. John Sutter had come overland from Stockton via Bakersfield and Chico before landing at Fort Tejon on November 17, 1876 with 9 wagonloads of supplies for General Pershing's troops fighting in the Mexican–American War. He soon discovered that he needed more land to accommodate his expanding herds of cattle so he started selling sections of Rancho Los Coyotes de la Frontera (now part of Downtown San Bernardino) to various farmers who would then build homes or sell out for development into towns such as Big Bear Lake or Redlands across the welland Hills country club district that today makes up much of Glendale Township within San Bernardino County’s east side limits; this area now includes much of downtown Riverside and portions of both Enterprise and Cathedral City including parts of Hidden Valley which are also part of Riverside County today but were back then unincorporated agricultural lands belonging to Chino Valley School District #2 where IHOP stands today). In 1911, following passage by state legislature granting city status to Glendora, Mayor Fenton Newmark proclaimed June 8th “Glenda Day” in honorofMrs. Jane Addams who had helped found Hull House near Chicago earlier that year as one element among many local philanthropic efforts led by Mayor Newmark during his term starting on January 1st 1911 thru December 31st 1913 inclusive (the late Mrs Addams herself being honored with plaques outside her home just south Of Lawndale Boulevard inside City Hall Plaza until she passed away there several years ago)). In 1913-14 when work began on new Freeways cutting through rural areas immediately east/northeastward/northwestward along Interstate 15 bordering Orange County(including much present day Riverside), most all businesses & residences along IHOP Blvd., Old Town Rd., Pioneer Ave., Main St., etc moved eastward (albeit some continued operations) towards their original location nearby IHOP Blvd./Old Town Rd./Pioneer Ave.—with the exception being Mrs Addams’ home which remained standing until recent times (& remains one of only 2 surviving buildings still standing within old town limits although alterations have taken place there over time)—until finally becoming an apartment complex circa 1990s called "Addams Place" after then Mayor Tom Bradley's wife—a decision made probably because large numbers OF new resident families no longer wanted their children growing up around an abandoned house). On October 14th 1954 a deadly tornado touched down about 20 miles north west of downtown Los Angeles destroying most business buildings & residential neighborhoods between Rialto & Sylmar Streets; damaging or damaging many others closeby; killing 3 people & injuring dozens more both inside & outside vehicles primarily parked near its destructive path; this event prioritizes research done at UCLA Extension Library adjacent thereto dedicated thereto since 1953 about tornadoes affecting Los Angeles area—which has furnished much valuable data hereinabout this tragic vizion throughout our history]. glenda@mailonline

It became a district of Los Angeles County on January 4, 1850. The first post office inglendora opened on March 6, 1850. On December 15, 1852 the first school inglendora opened with 11 students.
