Glendora was founded in 1892 by John Fitch and his wife, Anna Jane Fitch, as a summer resort for wealthy people looking for escape from the heat of downtown San Bernardino. The city's name comes from the Spanish word "glenda" meaning 'a kindling fire'. The first hotel in Glendora was the steamboat landing Hotel (1892-1893). The original City Hall building (1910) served as both municipal court house and office buildings until it burned down in 1933. In 1912,the Glendale Heights Company built what is now the City Hall Annex which included a restaurant and an ice cream parlor. In 1916, Municipal Court Building No 1 was completed and served as court house until it also burned down in 1933. After being rebuilt following damage caused by fire, Municipal Court Building No 2 became office building for city officials including Mayor George Pritchett (1920-21). In 1932–1933, new courthouse construction began with facilities at 101 N Main StreetCompleted on November 10th 1933by John W Waterman Architect and Builder under Contract to the City of Glendora through Messrs J H Welch & Sons Limited Partnership."Waterman" were local builders who had partnered with JH Welch to build many Southern Californian civic structures during this time period including Los Angeles Civic Auditorium (1928), Pasadena Civic Center (1929), Anaheim Stadium (1930), Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (1932) and more. A second new courthouse was completed on October 3rd 1944 by architects Edward Logue & Partners Incorporated under contract with the City of Glendora to replace Municipal Court Building No2 which had been damaged by fire just months before. A third new courthouse - still known today as Municipal Court Building No 3 - was constructed on May 1st 1949 adjacent to what is now Veterans Memorial Park across from Interstate 5 south of town center when then Mayor C B Rush finished all three state courthouses within one year using federal funds provided through World War II military construction projects that were conducted within Greater Los Angeles area municipalities while regulation by county government continued throughout these years. Mayor Rush’s dream project which ultimately became reality would see four municipally owned courthouses constructed within one decade – two downtowns side-by-side – houses that would continue serving local residents even into the present day., providing much needed revenue stream for our community while preserving historic landmark architecture along with functionable courtroom space.. Today we are proud to offer our citizens access to their municipal courts through our newly renovated Courthouse Annex satellite courtroom system that offers real time courtroom seating availability 24/7/365 across multiple locations statewide with no wait times or required registrations

The population of Glendora grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location at the intersection of several major highways. After World War II, Glendora became an important center for defense manufacturing because of its proximity to Los Angeles and Ventura County. Today, there are few original buildings left inGlendonara, but many businesses have been built in subsequent decades.
