It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern California and has been known for its agricultural industry and natural beauty since 1881. The first Europeans to visit Glendora were members of the Spanish Desembarcation Party which sailed up the Ventura River in 1769. The party was led by Captain Juan Bautista de Anza y Meneses and included guides, musicians and topographers who mapped much of what is now Southern California. The area that would become Glendora was settled by Mexicans in the late 1800s as part of Rancho Nieteche land grant given to José Joaquín Cámpora. early ranching operations were conducted by both hands but it was not until 1903 when Automobile Company president Charles Haddon Dodge bought 8,000 acres (30 km2) north of town for $5 million that development began. In 1907, Dodge opened the world's first self-propelled cotton gin at Glendora Springs. By 1912 there were over 20 businesses in town with a population of around 100 people; agriculture became an important part of business activity but also generated power for lights, streetcars and other public works projects duringglennora's heyday as a commercial center during prohibition era.. In 1924 Dwight D Eisenhower made his home here while attending Whittier College before serving as United States President from 1953-1961 while residing at Kenilworth Estate south of Glendale Hills. After leaving office he returned to Glendora where he died on February 14th, 2018 surrounded by family members at his home under hospice care following a long battle with leukemia

Glendora is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 10,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first settlers in Glendora were prospectors who discovered gold and silver near Oroville in 1849. A post office called Glenndora was established in 1853, but no one lived there until 1865 when John C. Morton located a cabin on farmland known as Glenndora Ranch. The first store in Glendora opened on Main Street in 1867 and continued to serve residents until 1929 when it closed because of the Great Depression. The first school to be built in Glendora was a two-room wooden building erected by Phebe Beyer and her husband George Beyer on what is now Elmira Drive west of Main Street in 1863. In 1865, Mrs. Beyer donated land for a new school which became the Glenndora School District No. 2 under state government control following the passage of Proposition 8 (the so-called " homosexual marriage" amendment). On October 15, 1889, fire destroyed four buildings including the old School District 2 building which housed theglendale High School before being replaced by McLaughlin MiddleSchool today's McLaughlin Campus where enrollment continues to grow thanks to new construction projects such as an $81 million addition that was completed last fall and will add 300 additional seats to its current campus size; this project is also adding more than 20 jobs to our community economy In 1924 Orson Scott Card wrote "A Game of Thrones", set mainly or entirely within Kings Landing during Robert Baratheon's Rebellion and featuring descriptions of both King Joffrey and his mother Cersei Lannister, at least one scene takes place within reach of Glenndora Road north of present day Union City Boulevard - scenes between Jaime Lannister (Kit Harington)and Bronn (Ian McDiarmid) take place outside an abandoned military fort with cannons pointing towards Brienne (Bella Thorne), Podrick Payne(Oscar Isaac), Renly Baratheon(Toby Jones), Syrio Forel(Meryn Trant) & Lysa Arryn (Lena Headey) situated only some hundred yards away from Glendoras high school today! On February 1st 1913 local citizens met at home then went out into their fields Sunnyvale Avenue east side Highway 680 south side burned down house still standing replaced by modern day structure now used as offices for county government administration
In 1853, James Irvine developed the Irvine Ranch on what is now Glendora, California. The land was donated by General Antonio Reyes of the Mexican army. The ranch became a popular spot for hunting and grazing animals. In 1902, it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Morgan who used it as their private estate until they sold it in 1916 to the city of Glendora. The city of Glendora used the property for agricultural purposes until 1949 when it was dedicated as a public park with an area of . It has been a part of the City of Glendora since 1951
