After World War I ended, Glendora experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location at an important crossing on Interstate 10 and its proximity to Los Angeles County Airport. During the 1930s, during WWII both local Air Force Base #2 (later known as Edwards AFB) and nearby Roscoe Army Air Field were located just outside town limits; however these base closures did not have any significant impact on Glendora's economy or social life.
Glendora was founded in 1887 on the east side of San Gabriel Valley. It became a city in 1912 and annexed by Pasadena in 1920. The city's biggest landmark is the Glendale Aqueduct, which carries water from the Santa Rita Mountains to Los Angeles.
