In 1978 Glendora became part of the newly created Kings County District (later Kern County) under Governor Jerry Brown. The first African American to serve as county administrator was former Los Angeles City Councilman Don Tyson. The economy of Glendora centers around agriculture and ranching; however, there are also some small businesses that have developed over time such as retail stores and restaurants. There are also several schools within Glendora, including three high school districts: Northridge High School District #1 (which includes parts of Glendale), Southridge Union High School District #2, and Westside Union Middle School District #3 which serve students from all over Kings County.

In 1969, Glendora incorporated as a city under state law; it had a population of 3,451 at the time. The city has since grown rapidly with annexations from other townships in Imperial County; as of 2016 there are over 12 municipalities with populations greater than 10,000 residents within Imperial County alone. Glendora is home to many popular tourist attractions such as Six Flags Over Glendora International Airport and Six Flags Great America Theme Park which are both located close by; furthermore, Glendale Heights lies just across the street from downtown for residents looking for shopping opportunities or entertainment options. Additionally, much attention is paid towards agriculture because much local produce can be found here including grapes and apples that are used in many Californian brands such as PepsiCo products like Aquafina watermelon juice and Vitaminwater beer
Glendora is a city in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. The population was 10,717 at the 2010 census, up from 8,521 in 2000. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles area. The area that became Glendora was first settled by Mission Indians in 1776. The town began to grow rapidly after opening its local post office in 1887 and becoming an incorporated municipality in 1911. In 1936, Glendora hosted the annual summer movie festival which helped make it a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike. After World War II, Glendora experienced growth as a bedroom community for Los Angeles and grew rapidly as an agricultural center with several thousand acres (1 km²) of farmland. However, during the late 1990s and early 2000s there were declines in both population and jobs due to various factors such as suburban sprawl, changes within the municipal government, and competition from nearby cities such as LAX and Toluca Lake. Because of these trends, annexed Rancho Cucamonga becameglendale's most populous municipality by 2013 while Glendora lost its status as a city proper until 2020 when it regained it through annexation of portions of neighboring Carson City
