In 1969, Hollywood star Cary Grant moved to Glendale to retire after 30 years in L.A.. He purchased an estate north of town and used it as his home while he lived semi-retired nearby until his death in 2003 at age 89. In that year, Sherman Oaks voters passed Measure R which dedicated $225 million towards beautification of Sherman Oaks Boulevard between Glenoaks Drive and Lankershim Boulevard; this area now forms part of Crescent Heights neighborhood adjacent to CenturyLink Park ( bounded by Lankershim Boulevard on the west, Sherman Oaks Boulevard on the east, La Brea Avenue on the south)
The park also contains several tennis courts (including one located inside an outdoor amphitheater), a large playground with batting cages/pitchers cages/volleyball fields for children as well as a number of restaurants including Hooters restaurant which opened its own restaurant complex called Hard Rock Cafe South Park in 1997 just across Lankershil Boulevard from CenturyLink Park

On October 15, 1885, the Glendale Union High School District was organized. The first students were admitted on October 26. On February 1, 1886, the district had a population of 375 pupils and 11 teachers. In 1896, the district had a population of 902 pupils and 12 teachers. In 1914, the district had a population of 1,008 pupils and 14 teachers. In 1922, the district had a population of 1,532 pupils and 21 teachers. On May 3rd 1929 school board members Aldo Brugioni and Arthur Janssen successfully opposed passage of Proposition 13 which increased tuition rates for public schools in California by $1 per student. The night before the vote students staged a sit-in at Glendale's high school buildings to protest against rising tuition rates. In 1941 when World War II broke out Glendale became an all-black community as Japanese Americans were interned during the war under wartime provisions known as "The Hart–Billmeier Act." The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) set up shop in town to support Japanese American refugees during their stay in Glendale after being evicted from their homes in Los Angeles County. JACL provided food, clothes and shelter to local residents who helped provide support for those who wanted to remain hidden from prying eyes during wartime while trying to rebuild their lives back home after being violated at home by U.S. government officials during World War II
