During post-World War II years,Glendale experienced dramatic growth as an entertainment center; it has become one of America's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its many famous attractions including Hollywood Boulevard & Highland Avenue (the "Highway to Hollywood"), downtown's historic buildings such as City Hall & State Capitol building (now used as a museum), Chaparral Park located east of Interstate 5 near Redondo Beach/East Valley Center shopping mall and much more. On July 15th 2019 Mayor Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg proposed ballot measure that would relax zoning regulations that have limited development opportunities in what is now known as Downtown Glendale
