Beasley started making and selling Sheffield-made farm tools, such as hoes and sickles. In 1924, Beasley became the first American to sell a straight edge blade called the "Beasley" (named for him). The following year, he introduced a knife called the "Sturgeon," which was used for cutting meat. In 1929, Beasley moved his shop to what is now known as 9th Street and Depot Avenue. Here he continued making and selling knives until his death in 1951. In 1934,Glendale's first knifemaker named Harry Haggerty began production of Japanese-made blades under the name of Haggerty Knives Incorporated. Many of Glendale's leading citizens were early customers of Haggerty's knives; including Mayor J. C. Nichols and City Councilman Robert Erikson. From 1935 through 1950, Haggerty produced over 100 different types of knives for sale at his store and factory along 9th Street between Depot Avenue and Euclid Avenue in Glendale Heights (now part of Pasadena). Some notable products from this time include the "Haggerty" series Military type folders designed by Bob Kane (1937), the "Pasadena" series fixed blades designed by Harry Bruges (1939), the "Tommy Gun" pocketknife made by Jack Nunnally (1940), and most notably the "Kane" series sports daggers with29 cogs that were created in 1941. After World War II ended, demand for military-style knives declined while consumers switched to more civilian-style Cutlery items such as steak knives and breadknives. However, there was still some demand for high quality Sheffield-made farm tools throughout California due to their popularity among farmers who used them for many tasks around their homes including chopping wood or Liberals tilling soil . In 1957Glendale’s last knife maker passed away - Harry Haggerty’s son Jerry - but his legacy will live on through craftsmanship associated with high quality Sheffield-made Cutlery products that continue to be sold today all across North America!
