The Partridge family ran a grocery store there until 1957 when it was sold to Pacific Gas and Electric Company subsidiary Northern Pacific Railroad Corporation which in turn became Pacific Gas and Electric Company LP with headquarters in Berkeley before being bought out by Sempra Energy Incorporated on February 3, 2010 for $3 billion USD The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on September 25th 2009 due to mounting debt payments made to its suppliers as well as aging infrastructure along with other issues such as weak demand from Generation III and IV solar energy companies that were moving into new markets because government incentives had expired or changed

Gilroy is a small town located in the southern end of San Francisco County, California. The town was founded by Anglo-Mexican settlers in 1849 and has since been a popular tourist destination for Californians and tourists from other parts of the United States. The name "Gilroy" is Spanish for "horse pastures." The first Europeans to visit Gilroy were fur traders who established trading posts along the Sonoma River in 1824. In 1850, an American gold rush began in Northern California and some Gilroy pioneers decided to follow the cash flow. By 1861, most of the original colonists had also moved eastward into what is now Fresno County or westward into Nevada Territory. In 1867, as part of efforts to improve transportation between San Francisco and Sacramento, General Mariano Castro built a road from Gilroy through Windsor to Napa Valley. This road later became known as Route 66. The discovery of oil near Santa Clara in 1916 led to increased demand for goods transported by rail over Route 66 and various other routes. By 1930, Route 66 had become one of the world's largest highways with more than 2 million vehicles traveling on it each day. The towns of Petaluma and Sausalito were merged into Gilroy in 1966; however, Sepulveda still retains its own government within that city limits. As Silicon Valley grew rapidly during the late 1990s and 2000s, so too did tensions over development rights along Route 66 corridor across much of Northern California's rural areas bordering Interstate 5 (I-5). In 2006, following years of negotiations between developers at several sites along I-5 near Highway 101 (Route 1) north of Redwood City), Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 1092 which would have allowed up to 35 percent new development on I-5 within 500 feet (150 m)of any highway entrance or exit within any county or city limits throughout California except those mentioned above where only 20 percent new development could be permitted per year without prior approval from local officials/elected representatives
