In 1821, part of Rancho San Pablo including present-day Gilroy was sold by Mexico to United States citizens George Copley and James Purdy as part of Rancho Tejon Mexican land grant that included parts of Contra Costa and Contra Costa counties as well as portions of Sonoma County. In 1847, during the Mexican–American War many soldiers from Santa Clara county joined forces with their American counterparts at Stockton against General Antonio Vallejo because they believed that he would not allow them to be admitted into Californias military service without being given arms; this led to violence which eventually forced Vallejo out of California and into Nevada where he died three months later at Carson City under a hail shower while attending a peace conference held at Reno by Ulysses S Grant On August 15th 1848 about 50 people including some children walked off the job at Winton Mills gin factory after eight weeks strike when Samuel Morse became president of National Union Gin company The town started off as an agricultural area with seven farms scattered around four small towns: Livermore, Antioch, Concordia and Pittsburg Landing before it became known for its hot summer weather which made it very popular for residents to go outside during the day or stay inside overnight during those days By 1888 there were over 1,000 miners living hereabouts When World War II began American troops were called up for service but they never got any closer than Sacramento so no combat took place here until Japanese bombers bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 killing more than 200 Americans including 40% of the local workforce

Gilroy, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of southern California. The population was 9,462 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kern County and adjoins Fresno to the south. The first European to visit Gilroy was Spanishquist Manuel Nieto on November 16, 1769. He named it La Bolsa de la California (The Gourd Bog) and reported finding palm trees and a rich mineral deposit there. The Spanish name for this area may have been Yerba Buena due to its abundance of watercourses and fruit trees. There are several theories about why Nieto gave this place the name "Gilroy". One theory suggests that he mistook a nearby hills for an island in Mexico's Pacific Ocean coastline. In 1823, José Hidalgo y Costilla surveyed this area and named it after Vicente Gilroy, governor of Alta California under Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. In 1868, United States Army Captain George Sutter discovered gold here while exploring the Central Valley for irrigation projects associated with his Donation Land Act of 1855. A group of American miners arrived at Rancho Los Nietos (later Rancho Nevada) in 1868 to startmining there but soon abandoned it because they were unable to find any gold ore worth exploiting; they only left behind their equipment and supplies. After years of unsuccessful exploration by others until 1870 when US Geological Survey member James Fenton found evidence that some gold had been mined here but no one wanted to pursue it because of high costs associated with extracting it,Captain George Waugh decided to annex present-day Kern County on February 14th 1870 The discovery led Waugh to name each town or village within what became Kern County after General Ulysses S Grant – Anza Mesa from Anzaldua Creek near modern day Petrified Forest National Monument; Waco from Woodland Creek near Woodward Dam; Cucamonga from Clearwater Creek; Placerville from Mount Whitney; Fillmore from Springdale River near Fillmore Dam; Leavenworth from White Sands Lake near Presentation Pass

It was founded in 1853 by adobe builders John Gilroy and Jeronimo Bledsoe as the town of Gilroy on Rancho Dolores. The name originated from an incident where Native Americans called it "Gallic" because of the many tall trees in the area. In 1873, the town became a city with its own government and adopted a new name: San Francisco.
