This led to an influx of people who started businesses such as fruiterer John Bigham, saddler Atherton & Myers (later known as Apple Inc.), tailor Samuel Brown (later known as Sears), photographer George Eastman (later known as Kodak), gold nuggets miner Prentice Miller ( later known as Unocal), stage driver Elisha Bean ( later known as Paramount Pictures) among others In 1955, three local businessmen formed a company to develop a new water supply for their town: Pacific Water Supply Company Ltd., also commonly referred to simply as Pacific Water or PWSL; this company built what is now called PG&E’s main pipeline from downtown Gilroy all the way down into Stockton County through Vallejo before terminating near Ceres In 1970 voters approved Measure M-1 which rezoneed much of eastern Contra Costa County including Gilroy so that open space could be developed for industrial use with access to public transportation
