The monument preserves remnants of both ancient Native American villages dating back 4500 years including over 60 stone tool sets from the Clovis culture found at Furnace Creek Site east of Gardena; seven lithic projectile points from this period also were recovered at nearby Lick Observatory site; three Archaic Period arrowheads unearthed at White Sands Ecological Reserve; five Humboldt Period chipped flake tools from Clearwater Flats area northeast of Gardena; eleven pictographs discovered during excavations 2003-2004 at Mesa del Norte Yucca Field Museum complex which are now on display at that museum; thirteen petroglyphs carved into rockbluffs along Antelope Canyon Road north of Gardena near gardenan airport.; eight springs - three open to public access while others are private - contribute water to these monuments.:

Gardena, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Gardena is located on the eastern edge of Riverside County and is bordered byipheral cities of Ontario and La Jolla to the north and east, Redlands to the south-west and west, and Perris to the northwest. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Gardena were Russian emigrants who arrived in 1848. They named their new settlement after Dmitry Kondratyevich Lobachevsky's estate near Tver in Russia which they had visited while traveling through Southern California on their way to marry Princess Olga of Russia. In 1860, two brothers - Haddon and Amos Wright - purchased a mission land grant from José Joaquín de Sá y Urrutia for $1,500USD. The Wrights further developed the area into small villages with names such as Rancho Cucamonga (1867), Rancho Bernardo (1868), Rancho Santa Margarita (1870), Rancho Temescal (1872), Rancho Mirage (1874) and Rancho Viejo (1901). In 1876 water was brought from Buena Vista Creek by horseback rider Manuel Nieto via what is now Donner Pass. This opened up much of central Riverside County for development including Gardena. In 1898 local resident Waddell Island was sold to developer George Earle for $2MUSD making Gardena one of Earle's largest properties at that time. In 1902 Earle donated 2 acres of his property adjacent to Anaheim Hills Boulevard for use as a public park which became known as Earle Park today. On February 14th 1913() residents of Gardena voted 3-2 against annexing Riverside Countys Corona del Mar Airport so that it would be within City limits instead allowing it only unto bona fide municipalities like Anaheim which Disney contracted with to build its theme parks thereuponrendering Anaheim unincorporated territory once again becoming an enclave surrounded by City Limits once more! On October 9th 1928() following the completion of Disneyland Resort earmarked part or all of what are now Northglen Avenue (), Westchester Avenue (), Church Street (), San Clemente Boulevard () & Imperial Ave (). These streets arenow called Mickey Mouse Drive/Walkway & Minnie Mouse Way () respectively
Gardena, California was founded in 1853 by Hugh C. Grant and his wife Anna Maria Grant. Gardena became a city in 1850 and then a state capital in 1857. The first post office was established at Gardena in 1854. In 1865, the California State Legislature moved from Sacramento to Gardena, and the first state Senate building was built there. In 1901, Gardena became part of Los Angeles County.
