Gardena, California is a small city in Kern County, California that is located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The population was 17,865 at the 2010 census. Gardena was incorporated as a city in 1909 and it became a full-time school district in 1914. Gardena is an industrial center for manufacturing and new technology. The city has two hospitals and six colleges, including four universities which are all public schools. There are also several small businesses and restaurants in Gardena. The city has been known for its flower displays during the Springtime entitled "The Big Show." Gardena is located about 60 miles east of Los Angeles and 25 miles west of Bakersfield. It has a temperate ocean climate with mild to cool winters and hot summers. In January 2019, Gardena had an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit). The history of Gardena began with Native Americans who were there when it was founded by Rancho Rincon de San Joaquin Indians in 1848 as part of Rancho Nueva Alta land grant given to José María Vasquez from Spain. In 1909, Gardena became one of 20 townships within Kern County when it was formed from parts of Mono County and Yucaipa County. Gardena was incorporated as a city on July 1, 1909 by order of Governor Hiram Johnson based on recommendations made by the State Legislature Committee on Cities and Towns met on May 2nd that year at City Hall after hearing reports from Mayor Dominguez regarding how much progress had been made since he had taken office two years earlier following the death of his predecessor Amedeo Coletti who had served for 12 years before being succeeded by John Tingley who would be reelected to serve out the remainder of Johnson's term until November 5th 1906 when he resigned due to ill health which included services as Supervisor for Kern County Workmen's Compensation Department under then-Governor William Hinchcliffe effective November 6th 1906 With Genoa Borough now part of Imperial Beach #2 annexed thereto upon becoming fully organized #3 referendum held therein giving effect thereto by ordinance passed February 28th 1910 providing: That no change be made in boundaries between these two municipalities without first obtaining written consent thereof from both sets thereof #4 On March 3rd 1911 City Council adopted resolution setting forth tentative plans for annexation resulting in further discussion but no action being taken until February 16th 1912 when Resolution No 7052 authorized Assistant District Attorney Harry Pugh to convene meeting called for that purpose to consider annexation applications received pursuant to Order No 8754 dated January 15th 1912 also authorizing expulsion or injunction proceedings should any objections be raised against such proposed annexation

Gardena, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Gardena is located on the Central Coast of California about 25 miles (40 km) north of San Francisco and 30 miles (48 km) south of Oakland. The history of Gardena began with ranching and farming operations in what is now Contra Costa County. In 1873, while serving as captain of a Confederate army unit during the American Civil War, Lt. Col. George Wirtz discovered oil shale near present-day Gardena and decided to develop it into a petroleum refinery. By 1887, Wirtz had become one of the largest oil refiners in America with his company Jardine & Warren Refining Company Limited; he died in 1916 at the age of 86 years old%. In 1915, William Randolph Hearst bought 80% ownership in Jardine & Warren from Wirtz's widow for $1 million dollars cash; Hearst would later become one of Southern California's most powerful businessmen and philanthropists. Hearst immediately began developing Gardena as an agricultural center due to its location: just outside San Francisco on Highway 101 between Interstate 5 (then called State Route 26), which ran along the Pacific Ocean coast east to Bakersfield and west to Livermore Valley, and Interstate 880 (now known as I-580). He named the city after himself – "Hearst Gardens". A post office was established at Gardena on February 14, 1919; it was moved from nearby Hercules on March 3 that year because local residents were not happy with having their names put next to those of other cities without any connection to them whatsoever. The first mail received from Gardena was an advertisement for Playtime Rentals by Mrs. Alice Haggerty dated May 10th 1919: "Dear Sirs: We have opened our new store at 1114 North First Street - inside you will find everything you need for your playtime." On November 22nd 1924 voters approved Measure V which allowed school children living within 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of schools superintendentially appointed daycare centers access to free lunch through September 1923; this measure was part of an overall effort by Governor Frank Murphy to increase public education spending statewide by 50%. In 1927–28 there was heavy bombing during World War II which destroyed many businesses in downtown Santa Clara including Jardine & Warren who lost over 100 employees including many skilled artisans such as glass blowers etc.; however no injuries were reported among any customers or employees inside either business.. In fact all but two windows were shattered by falling bomb fragments! Looked like they did some damage when they came into town but didn't do much actual harm .. Anyway back then downtown Santa Clara had been pretty wiped out so most likely things that got smashed up got salvaged or whatever.. All we know for sure is that several store windows nationaly famous for their art smithied down are now long gone thanks largely to all those bombs going off back then circa 1925-1927! Today almost every business except one closed within 2 decades... Even today if you look around at any given day there are bound to be a few pieces missing somewhere along these lines ;) In short though not much has changed since then other than more people moving here and away.. It's actually quite remarkable how much has changed since then especially considering how little has actually happened!"
Gardena is a city in the San Bernardino County, California. The population was 63,890 at the 2010 census. Gardena is located on the eastern edge of Riverside County and is bordered by Moreno Valley to the north and west, San Bernardino to the east, Lake Arrowhead to the southeast, and951 acres of suburban sprawl to the south. The community began as a small rancho called Rancho Cucamonga on August 29, 1879 when 8 families from San Diego arrived on horseback from Rancho Pasqual de Santiago. It was named for its founder - General Manuel Nieto Gardnerville - because he had confiscated some 640 acres (24 km²) of Rancho Cucamonga land in 1877 so that it could be developed into agriculture. The first house in Gardena was built in 1880 by John Ault and his family. In 1886 local merchants Jens Jensen and John Gault organized what would become known as "The Merchants' Association" which functioned as a trade group for gardeners, farmers, hoteliers and other businesses near downtown Gardena. In 1906 City Councilwoman Fortunato Giovannini proposed that Gardena be incorporated as a town; but this proposal was rejected by Mayor Carmody because there were no plans to build any schools or churches within the boundaries of the new town. On November 7, 1907 voters approved incorporation via referendum with 3/2 majorities opposed by non-incorporated portions of Riverside County including Corona del Mar which became part of Riverside upon incorporation; while unincorporated parts of Orange County retained their own independent government until 1959 when they joined Riverside County under one system of government under then-Governor Ronald Reagan. During World War II much of southern Riverside County became an Army Air Forces training area known as "Gardena Field". Many people who lived there during World War II still live there today: many military personnel remain active duty members or retirees living off their military pension checks plus air conditioning; while others have moved out into newer housing developments elsewhere in Southern California since then (e.g., Westminster). After World War II most residents returned home; however small numbers continued residing abroad (mostly Europe) through various forms of international migration such as guest worker programs operated by various American companies such as Ford Motor Company ("Operation Bonus"), Wells Fargo & Company ("Bronx Streets") and United Fruit Company("Fruit Kings"). In 1957 after years efforts by Mayor Dominguez unsuccessfully petitioned state legislators for annexation into neighboring Los Angeles city limits due primarily to practical issues surrounding transportation – specifically lack of room adjacent to Interstate 10 – Gardena became an independent city under mayoral control with its own police department providing services only unto itself not subject to those provided by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). A major fire destroyed much partof downtown Gardena in 1990 which forced Mayor Dominguez to reevaluate his originalapproach towards annexing neighboring cities form Riverside County due primarilyto practical issues surrounding transportation – specifically lack of room adjacent towhite interstate 10 –and he ultimately decided against it..
